I micro chip my minis over here, you get the rego number on their paperwork and at all the big shows the horses are checked to make sure they are chipped and match their paperwork.
Once they are chipped you send the animal(horse) details to a national database so if the horse is ever stolen it will be checked and u will be contacted.

No, you can't track your animal with the chip. It has to be read. You have the number and if you have a registered animal it can be put on their papers. It's also listed with a national data base. Not only does the chip have a number it also has your name, location, and phone, and the horse's name. Yes, photos from all angles are important.
