Barbaro's half brother, Lucarno, lines up tomorrow in the English Derby at Epsom. He's by Dynaformer out of Vignette....wonder how he'll handle the ups and downs of the track?
It's rare to have an american bred horse running in the Derby....and on my birthday too!!!!
Keep an eye open for the results!

Please let us know! Officially, however, a horse can only be a half-sibling to another horse if they are out of the same mare. :-) On a side note, what is the latest news about George Washington, do you know? Will he be returned to the races now that he has flunked out at stud? I am a HUGE fan of his!

According to his trainer Aidan O'Brian...he's back in training and being aimed at the Breeders Cup!

According to his trainer Aidan O'Brian...he's back in training and being aimed at the Breeders Cup! What great news! I need to check around and see if I can get any information on his prep races. I'm close enough to Monmouth that I've been thinking about going to watch the BC races this year, but if I saw GW in person, I'd faint! I hope they run him in some preps over here. He needs to get used to runing the other direction on the track. (And I hope they keep him on turf, this time!) His mind looked blasted in the Classic last year. Given his problems at stud, maybe they can be more sensible about running him, this time around. Gorgeous George he is!

Im a little confused about that Devotee. How can a horse only be a half brother if they have the same sire, but not the same dam? That is a strange rule. Its discrimination

Stallions breed so many mares that about half of all horses would be "half-siblings," if it weren't for that practice. Only the dam counts, when it comes to being a half-sibling. Celebrate. It's one of the few traditions that provide preferential treatment for the moms! :-)

Here's the link to the Epsom Derby...you'll see how easily Authorized wins this race. And Lucarno is in 4th place, purple and white striped jacket.

Devotee, you seem to know alot about TB's. Got a question for you. Ever heard of Stark Winter? I was looking at Dynaformer's progeny on Allbreedpedigree.com and he has offspring out of a mare out of Stark Winter. Anyway to make a long story short, my mare has some of the same bloodlines as Dynaformer as well. I know some of the TB names but not sure who is the "who's who" among racehorses. Where would I check some stats out?
