I talked to the man I bought this hay from and he said he would teach me the difference in all the hay and what to feed and what not to feed. He said he takes pride in his hay and will guarentee that it is GOOD hay. He sends a sample off to some place for some reason we didn't really get into that but he does keep all his hay in the barn out of the weather I do know that from seeing him get the hay. I have heard about the mold in the hay and I also heard that you don't want to feed animals any hay that had mice or rats pee on it. I have noticed the horses like to eat the hay from the middle of the bale and waste the outside. This man said that the hay that has green in it from the hay itself not moisture is the best hay because the hay that is left out to dry and turn really brown is wasting the protein. We bought a bale from him that had the green pieces of hay in it and the horses loved it. I only heard about the fescue in pregnant mare not any other horse that is why I wasn't worried if I had fescue or not. I have heard of the hay burning due to spontainous combustion. I was told that was when it was rolled wet.
