This is funny! Yes, Megan we gotta laugh or life can just get way too serious! When I told my mother that I had broken my leg I was laughing and she told my dad when she hung up that I was laughing. She couldn't quite figure that one out. I said, "What was I supposed to do, cry about it? NOT!

Good Grief Blacklabs I had no idea you had a broken leg too. OUCH! Wished we lived closer and we could get together and have a pitty party. I am so grateful that I have Marestare or I would go nuts. I am unable to put any weight on my leg due to the nature of the fracture so there's not a whole lot that I can do. Take care of yourself from one crip to another. Thanks Deb, I had no weight for a while and now can do more.I was the same as you, when the Xray tech asked how I did, I said I was drunk and fell off the bar.She said right back at me you did not because if you were drunk it wouldn't have broke.LOL I did then explain MS to them and then we laugh harder.

OK TSSP I think we need to send out a possum to find MaryBeth.I know she was moving and waiting for internet service but that was 2 weeks ago. Me thinks we should round up the troops and send them out to find her.

Devotee is on hiatus while taking a sabbatical having a sojourn in Arizona. Did I use enough big words in that one? Hey there, TSSP, I resemble that remark! I'm back from my anti-vacation. Trust me. It was. No sojourns or sabbaticals about it. However, if y'all want to talk about MIA MSAs and funny broken leg stories, nobody should forget Rachel (rrm62). I've caught her lurking on the MB a couple times, and she responds to PMs, but I think that AFTER BREAKING HER LEG RUNNING DOWN THE STAIRS TO GET TO HER COMPUTER WHEN BELLE FOALED . . . she decided to get a life. Okay, Rachel, come out hitting. Let's see it.

I'm here!! Yes, I did the same thing Blacklabs did! Fell down the steps in the middle of the night when Mr. Heart Butt was born! That was Feb 1 and i'm STILL having trouble with it!
I've "tried" to lay off of Marestare, because i was getting WAY behind at work, but i still can't stay away completely!
Blacklabs, we're going to have to start a club, Marestare Injured or something!

Rachel!!! You need to limp on over to the new Mare Stare message board. We're going to have a comedy forum there, featuring MSAs who are injured in the line of duty. You'll be a star! (Take your time. We're still getting rolling . . . and I wouldn't want you to trip on the way over.)
Glad to see you back!

Update Here's a link to the whole story (better pack a lunch!) Rachel's StoryWe should get together and cry on each others shoulders. I am in the same boat as you are. Two weeks ago I was launched off my horse and my foot was still in the stirrup when I hit the ground. I have a sprained foot and a fractured Fibula. When I saw the pictures of your foot, I thought they were the ones of my foot. Looks exactly the same. (same foot even). You mentioned 6 months to a year to recover..........NOOOOOOO! These crutches are already getting real old. I have to use them for another six to eight weeks due to the nature of my fracture. I see the Orthopedic Dr. in the morning to get the cast on, provided the swelling has gone down enough. I keep reciting the following poem to get me through this. From the day you are born, til you ride in the hearse, no matter what happens, it could always be worse. You take care rrm62 and watch those steps!

Speaking as an experienced klutz, myself, I can tell you that it will be a YEAR before either of you will be able to walk without a hitch in your gait. Bummer, hm? And if you want full recovery of your foot/ankle back (so that you can do things like absorb shock in stirrups, for example) you need to do rehab religiously. My orthopedic team was fabulous (all the docs ride point-to-point, so they understand all about voluntary horse-related bone breaks), but they cut me loose without any rehab program. Find a good one on the Web, if that happens to you. Or feel free to ask me. You need to keep flexing the ankle in all directions to heal the tendons, which seem to heal lots slower than the bones.
When the cast comes off, you should raise your leg off the floor and write the alphabet with your toes in the air many times a day. It's easy to do anywhere (even while staring at mares) and it will strengthen your leg and increase flexibility.
That will be 10 cents. :-)
