Okay... Now that I have your attention, I'm going to explain the foaling alert monitor to you, and how it works. Have you seen the "Low" and "High" buttons on the cams? That is for the Foaling alert system. PLEASE DO NOT PRESS THE BUTTONS UNLESS A MARE ACTUALLY APPEARS TO BE IN LABOR!!! False alarms are not funny, and IP addresses are recorded for those that hit the alerts, so blatant abuse of the alert system will not be tolerated. We have had problems recently with people playing and just pressing buttons. Please, don't play around. **Sometimes owners will request a low alert because a mare is dripping milk, or for another reason, and that is fine.** Anyway, it takes 3 different people pressing a LOW alert for one to go out, and only owners or designated people with passwords can send out HIGH alerts. There are two ways to use the alert monitor. One is through e-mail by entering your e-mail address in the box on any cam. (though the e-mail notices seem to be notoriously late in notifying you of a foaling... sometimes by hours!) Your best bet is to open the alert monitor in a separate window when you are online and minimize it. It will "pop up" on your screen with the alerts (be sure you have your sound on and turned up where you can hear it!) It gallops for LOW alerts (LOW means a mare is showing signs she is close to foaling), and whinnies for HIGH alerts (HIGH means a mare IS foaling NOW). A farm name will be listed, and you can click on that to find the cam, or a message board that will have the cam link. Occasionally these links will not work, but you can usually check on the Mare Stare board to quickly find the correct link. The link for the alert monitor is: www.foalcam.com/gateway.htmlPLEASE use the buttons wisely on the alert system. It is there for the owners and viewers to help you get to watch all these wonderful horses foal. Don't be afraid to use it, but please don't abuse it.

Thank You so much for posting this. I know there were several low alerts put out for a certian horse and I think that is why this was posted. I am pretty new to mare stare and I have a mare in foal and looking for labor signs but I won't put out any alerts because this is a learning experience to me and I know there are several people watching that know what to look for. I want to thank you for this site and wish I had found it a long time ago. ( I actually don't know how I found it.......)

I found that the Alert Monitor will work fine if you use Internet Explorer, it does not like Earthlink or Mozilla Firefox right now but it use to. Don't know what changed.

The alert monitor works fine on FireFox 2.x and the latest Java software. Don't know about Earthlink. What do they use for a browser? (Help...About usually will tell you.)

The alert monitor is working now. If you still can't get it to work on your computer, hold down the CTRL key while you click the REFRESH button.
What ISP do you have?

Is the alert monitor stuck somehow? I keep getting a low alert for Avalanche Friesians, but the time always says 11:20 a.m.

It is good to know the ins and outs of the low and high alert. I never would have touched the high alert but I did press the low alert button once when a mare was down and kicking and I thought she was ready to foal. That was Song and she has been down since but I don't alert because I know she may get up again. This was over a day ago and she is still standing. Amazing horses, yesiree.
