If you can get a hold of a Magnetic Sweeper to "Sweep" the area, if there are stray nails they will get picked you. Ask where you get your nails Or if you have something with a good sized magnet, you can fashion something ...

Debbie they sell those magnetic sweepers at Northern Hydraulics in Rock Hill. My daughter bought one after her new barn was built. I just went back and read the posts and see that you already have a magnet on a stick. The one I saw at Northern was a long bar magnet with a handle. My daughter bought one that was round and you could push a button and it released the nails that were picked up.

Thanks ladies. I have seen a magnetic sweeper in the past but didn't know what it was called until I read your mail. Then on the marestare homepage I saw a link for magnetic sweepers! I called one of the companies the link took me to. They have one for $350 plus shipping. WOW. I will go to Northern Hydraulics too. I believe the sweeper is just what I need. Akalinda, I love the new picture of Rocky and Adrianne. I would love to have a goat. One was offered to us recently but hubby said no. Do you just have the two? I see there is still no straw in Octavia's stall. Bummer. Pam was out of town last year when she foaled. Do you think she is waiting for Pam to go to Blowing Rock? Pam said the coyotes are being quiet now. SO, just maybe.....

Wow Debbie..$350? It must be a lot different than what I am thinking about! Is it an automatic thing that works by itself? lol. The one at Northern is about $30, I think. Its basically a handle with the long bar at the end. But you have to provide the steam to run it. My grandboys just drug it over the surface of the ground and it picked up any nails in the dirt.
The goats are my grand"kids", lol. They belong to my daughter. Rocky is a Pygmy goat and is 4 months old. Adrianne is a Fainting goat that we got from Denise at Gypsymeadows. She is almost 5 months old. We are looking for another female Pygmy goat so we can breed Rocky when he is old enough. There is a very funny story concerning Adrianne. When I told Denise we were looking for a female pygmy for Rocky ,she told us she had one for sale. So we went to Charleston to meet Denise and her husband Mark . Met all her animals and got some great pictures too. We fell in love with Adrianne and brought her home. She had been used to living with her family of goats and didn't let you catch her very easily. But she was getting used to us and calming down . I went into her stall one day, held out my hand to her and just as I started to pet her she ran. I caught her with my other hand and as soon as I touched her, her legs went stiff and she fell right over! Well I knew right away that our new Pygmy goat was actually a fainting goat, lol. It seems that Denise had her paper work correct on her new babies ,but she had them mixed up in her mind. Her little male was the pygmy and Adrianne is a full blooded Fainting goat. lol. They are such loving little things. I went by today to see them and my daughters horses and Rocky came running to me just like a puppy does. He loves to be picked up and petted. Adrianne does too but she is more regal and makes you come to her rather than the other way around.

Debbie, do you know the cam has been down all night? I think it went down during the afternoon. I'm running out of sedatives, here. LOL!

I'M SOOOO SORRY. I hope your pill bottle is not totally empty because of ME. I have had the link closed because I am still working on the cameras. I feel sure they will be back on later today. PLEASE hang in there. Don't give up on me. And don't get hooked on those pills! BTW, I'm hoping there will be lots to see on someone else's cam - if you know what I mean.

No problem. I'll finish up the rubbing alcohol and then move on to the paint thinner. LOL!
Yeah, I am gazing upon the lovely Octavia, watching her every move. And Allison (at Mythic Friesians) has Liskje on cam, too. So I've got my Friesian-fix mojo working. And you know what they say . . . absence makes the heart grow fonder. Let us know when the cam comes up again. :-)

Debbie, the cams look GREAT today! Oh, and so do the horses! I'm going to be gone for a week, but I'll peak at the cam every chance I get. When I get back, I'll settle in for the home stretch. Meanwhile, good luck with the (hair-raising) barn-raising!

I'm baaaack, Debbie! Any updates on Eveline's progress or the barn's progress? Is it time to start a thread for Eveline on "the big board?"

Welcome back Devotee! I hope you had a nice vacation. You have been missed. Yes, if you would like to start a thread, that would be great. Eveline will get more attention that way. I am leaving the camera on now. Help watching would be greatly appreciated. I think I read that you missed Octavia and Zavia. Don't feel bad. Everybody missed it. She has foaled in that corner of her stall before. Maybe she is shy! We have put up all the new poles for the addition to the barn. Headers and trusses should be here this week. Thanks for asking!

Okay - I upped and did it. The thread is there on the big board. Now I'll have lots of company to admire her with. LOL! You can come on over and tell everybody how to pronounce her name, etc. :-)
I did miss Octavia, but I've been feasting my eyes on her and Zavia ever since I got home (last night). I adore her! What a bright and elegant filly!
That's so exciting about the barn-addition progress. We built our barn, too, and it was the most fun I have ever had. It is perfect - everything I ever wanted in a barn and my proudest achievement. Now I want to retire, get more acreage, and build another one. I need to act my age.
Hmmmm. It seems to me that if you are going to have more barn, you should be able to keep all the foals, right? What are you plans for filling the addition?

Hi Debbie, I'm new to the friesian board but you may have seen me around some of the other boards. I like to mingle with the commoners now and then. I just read that Devotee missed Octavia and "Zavia", is that the filly's name? We have not had a post from Pam in a while and I was wondering! I look forward to watching Eveline! Good Luck!

Well thanks for watching along with the rest of us "commoners". Yes, Pam told me that Zavia would be her name. The names this year must begin with W, X, Y or Z. She considered Xavia and Zavia and told me that Zavia was it. I have noticed you on the other boards. I love your slogan - "2 blessed 2 be stressed". Glad to have you here with me and Eveline. Devotee, thanks for starting the new thread for me. I will tell you a little about the barn addition there.
