Hey everyone, The new barn manager at our barn has 2 horses - 9 year old Calvin a Warmblood Cross and Rose a 4 year old Draft Pony. These two horses always go outside together and are pretty attached. The other day, when the horses were being brought inside, Rose and Calvin were playing and Calvin kicked out at Rose (nothing aggressive purely playing.) Unfortunately, he kicked her in a bad spot and broke her leg :-( the vet came out and Xrayed Rose and confirmed that her leg was broken but we did not know the extent because of the swelling. The vet said that Rose was to be on 100% stall rest and not be moved. Yesterday, the vet came back out to X ray again because a lot of the swelling had gone down and we found out the injury was much worse than we thought. Rose has several chips in her bone and needs to be taken up to the hospital (she's either going up today or tomorrow). She will probably have to have surgery and needs lots of prayers to get through this. Her owner, Breana, is also in need of some prayers as this will be a very trying time . She has just (as in 2 weeks) taken over the position of barn manager and has a lot on her plate. Please keep Rosie in your thoughts. I'll try to find some pictures of her and post them.

well things with rosie have taken a turn for the worse. her owner Breana was discussing what would need to happen in the surgery and found out that 3 steel rods along with multiple screws, nuts, and bolts would be put into rosie's leg - some permenantely. after the (costly) surgery rose only had a 20% chance of survival and would never be able to be ridden or even run around again. Because she is only 4, breana could not make her live out her life like that so the decision was made to put rosie to rest. the vet is coming up tomorrow so until then rosie is enjoying her pampering and the boxes of treats she has been recieving. thanks for all your prayers - rosie will be living pain free with a heavenly herd soon.

ok...... i feel horrible saying this (and incredibly stupid) but apparently i'm several days behind on barn information. i haven't been up there much these past weeks and when i do, i'm usually in to ride and then right out. therefore, i have had no idea that rose was in fact not put to sleep. i honestly thought this whole time that she was put to sleep when in reality she was alive and (somewhat) healthy in her stall. what happened was that breanna had every intention of putting her to sleep but then talked to her regular vet (situated in NH) for a second opinion. he suggested waiting it out a bit longer with rosie and he was supposed to be coming down this weekend to take a look at her. breanna has a lot of trust in this vet and because of the bute rosie has been on, she is relatively comfortable in her stall given the circumstances.
i am SOOOO sorry for putting wrong information on here -- i just didn't know. rosie could still use some prayers because her situation is still shaky. i guess the only plus side of my own stupidity is that rosie is still alive and with us - i cannot say i'm sorry enough!!!

i'll try to find some of her..... i'm acually not sure if i have any with me but i can always take some :-) rose is still healing - she's stuck inside for another 3 weeks and is just going crazy the poor little girl - atleast now she can be handwalked for 5 minutes twice a day but she just wants to run and play so badly....... although everything seems well now they're still not sure if she'll ever be rideable again :-(

Well that was good news about Rosie. Don't feel bad tinypony, we all make mistakes. It was good to hear that she's still with her owner. Prayers headed her way..
