Yep!! The part that cracked me up was, "He has a fast start and tends to jump a little when he takes off from a stop into a gallop. He also has a quick turn and if you aren't paying attention he can dump you right off by turning out from under you..." I have to admit he tried to word it pretty. ellamarie

Hi, first off, congratulations on making your dream come true - or at least trying to. As somebody who has started back up to riding during the last year or so, my top suggestion would be - skip the breed issue, but make dang sure you get a horse with manners on the ground, and even more importantly, being ridden. It takes time to "sort everything out up there" to perfection, and a well trained and mannerly horse will make it fun and worthwhile, as opposed to one that will take advantage of your shortcomings.
So while I don´t know about your skill level, I wouldn´t necessarily recommend a Thoroughbred or another hot horse, especially if you don´t plan to take tune up lessons. I have taken a few lessons, and to be reminded of "mistakes" that you don´t see up there has helped me feeling at home and ease in the saddle again. We love to ride, because it is fun if it works, and it may cost you about the same or a bit less even (fewer injuries and broken bones or stall items) to feed and care for a nice horse than a cranky one. Any horse can have bad moments, but some or just easier to handle than others.
So under that circumstance, a horse that you could ride and grow accustomed to with the option to buy would be ideal. If you live reasonably close, maybe some kind of lease could be arranged on a horse (at their place?), so you could find out if you click and work out as pair.
Good luck, Emma

Ellemarie, have you found a horse yet, or any prospects?
