about how long after the mucus plug passes are we looking at before foaling? We had a madien mare just pass her plug today

It can be anywhere from 2 to 10 days before she foals...

Ok we are just a little bit on egg shells, the mare has no milk yet, and has not droped yet, but is beggining to, and beging to losen up

i had a mare once that took 3 weeks....I am not sure that what I was seeing was the plug, altho it was brown and mucous like...it was in her tail and quite a bit of it.....not bloody. Can you describe what you are seeing?

it was bloody she was check by vets tonight and confirmed it was the mucus plug

and it was really only inside the vulva, she is about 2 weeks till due date

Some Maiden mares don't produce milk until after foaling. They aren't like a mare that has foaled before so you can't go by her utters....

Amen!!! It can drive a person up the wall... I hope she has an easy foaling & a healthy foal... Please let us know how she is doing & when she has her little one...

Let me tell ya. Riley was a maiden, she lost her mucas 2 weeks before she foaled, she had us pulling our hair out because they will usually foal within 10 days, Then she just laid down one day (14 days later) and started pushing! Crazy Maidens!

Kelly not to be a pest but was reading all the riley posts earlier reminising, and it was march 5th you posted that riley lost her plug and she foaled on march 22...she went almost 20 days lordy that horse sent us all for a loop foaling on her due date didn't she LOL

this mare has also lost musceling in the hind end, and finially developed a huge bag, let alone her belly is soooo low now I need to get on me knees to look

As a mares body starts to prepare for the birth of her foal...the mares cervix relaxes and prepares for the birth.... there may be a discharge of some mucus and this mucus is called the mucus plug...
