Update 5/8: Moo-Lah Ranch outside mare has 1 new draining abcess, 3 abcesses now dry, and has lost about half of her frog. She is expected to lie down a lot due to hoof pain, and in her current condition no meds are allowed to reduce the pain. Popcorn is over 1/2 bagged and rapidly softening around the tail. If she continues to develop at this rate she may foal early. CEOates Ranch is on foal watch for Popcorn tonight. Join us there if there are any questions about Popcorn ceoates.com/chat/echat.htm

It breaks my heart to see her in such pain. Here is my question. Since she is in the last few weeks of her pregnancy, and her foals body systems are all developed, is there an antibiotic or antiinflamatory that can be given to ease her discomfort?
If not, after birth will she be able to be treated with pain meds/antibiotics even though she will be feeding her foal?
Prayers to her for a safe foaling.

There is an antibiotic that they can give her but is is not safe for and unborn foal or a nursing foal. The hope is to wean the foal early and put her on the antibiotics ASAP

Thank you. What about foot soaks with antibiotic in it? I know some of it would be absorbed systemically, but at this point in the foals development would it affect the baby in a negative manner?

This girl looks like she could be good to go. Have the owners been notified?
Who issued the low alert?
