Well, I made it,
Hi Everyone,
I dont have much time on the computer right now, Infact, this is the first time ive been on in 3 days...
We have 2 very sick horses, Both have the same symoptoms... None of the local vets can tell us whats wrong... Right now, the symptoms are pointing in the direction of Easteren Encephalitis, Our Horses are all current on theier Vaccinations. We are having blood work done in the morning to see if that will tell us anyting...... Both horses have the exact same symptoms, Depression, staggering and loss of coordination, High Fever (between 104 -105) wont eat thier feed, acute pain, spending most of the time laying down.... Anyway, Theres alot more but I have to get back down to the barn.... Right now they are getting pumped full of several antibiotics, Banamine, and a very potent sedative/tranqulizer to ease the pain some, We could really use some prayres for our 2 mares, Weve been going round the clock since Sunday, to keep these horses comfortable and Stable, at one point on Monday night, one of them went into shock...Anyway, Any prayres are greatly appreciated..

Would love an update William. I'm so sorry to hear that your horses are sick, and it's even more frustrating when no one can figure out what's wrong.
Something you might try is Lixotinic - you can get it a Jeffer's, maybe elsewhere too, but it's saved alot of horses I know because it gets them eating and drinking again. It's a liquid vitamin supplement and it tastes good, so they like it. You can always try to syringe it into their mouths as well.
Best wishes - keep us posted.

What a terrible thing to be going through! You are added to my prayer list, as are all the other horses here which are in need of God's healing hands. Sandy

Are there any updates on these horses? They've been in my thoughts and prayers and I'm hoping that all is well.

I've been wondering, too, if there is any update. The symptoms do sound like EPM, so I'm praying very hard that's not what it is. sandy

I hope William doesn't mind me posting fo him. He lives about 20 miles from me and I have talked to him and Grace a couple of times. Another friend was at my farm today and told me that one of his mares was doing better, but his little Appy mare was still having a hard time. I know that he has been very busy with them and Grace (William's Mom) is also has some serious health problems. Please keep them in your Prayers, when I talked to him last he really sounded tired. They are still waiting for test results. I have another friend just south of me with similar symptoms and they are leaning towards Easteren Encephalitis or West Nile, her horses are also up to date on all shots. Seems to me a little early in the year for this but we have had unusually warm weather for this time of the year. I will give them a call again in the morning.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks again for all the concern and prayers for our mares. We truly believe the prayers are what are getting our girls through this horrible ordeal. De De is doing much better now. Almost completely back to normal. Appy is improving at a very slow rate. We take 2 steps forward and 1 backward. Blood results show she was hit much harder than De De.The blood results are inconclusive as to a diagnosis. We may never know what it is. All we can do is give them supportive care for the symptoms. We are still waiting on more results for the wee, eee, and vee. Appy is eating normally now, and is spending more time on her feet, but still seems to be experiencing some kind of a muscle pain and stiffness, similar in nature to azoturia, or what is called tying up syndrome in big horses. We have started her on vitamin e and selenium, as well as warm glycerin and epsom salts baths to try to relax the muscle spasms. As soon as the blood results are back on the transmittable viruses, and we are sure it is safe to take them out of quarantine, we will turn her out in the big pasture with the herd and and let her run with them to loosen and strengthen her muscles again. Will keep you posted on her progress, and thanks again for the prayers, they are greatly appreciated.
