I guess reading about Becky's foal and the Houck's preemie and Charlotte's filly bagging up put my mind in overdrive.
Last night I dreamt that I went to the barn and both Annie AND Breeze had brand new foals. Both were healthy.
Annie's foal was a black and white LOUD splash overo filly. Now, this is really wishful dreaming as Annie was bred to Rambo. Both are sorrel and white, although they both have tons of white on them. However, the chances of a black and white foal would be pretty rare.
Breeze's foal was a colt, and looked just like her! A little grulla pinto!
So... I'm keeping track of this dream to see what I really end up with, LOL.

Sandy, Just a little info you should know, Rambo's sire throws 60% black and white foals! Grils and boys And Kpy Kat, Rambo's dam has had sorrell and white, silver and white, and several black and white foals! So black and white is a real possibility for you! Good Luck Bill

With Annie and Rambo, your foal will be red based. If silver is hiding in there, that's a possibility. Breeze and Flash could give you dun, grulla, black, red or bay. There may be even more color options I haven't even thought about! At the very least, they should be very colorful! ;D

How interesting, Bill. I didn't realize that! But if both Rambo and Annie are sorrel with a lot of white, I think the chances are pretty strong the foal will be sorrel and white.
Becky, is there a possibility there could be a medicine hat? Would it be a 50% possibility? Or, if Breeze is dominant for grulla, then would there be NO chance?
It will be VERY exciting waiting for her foal to be born, and there really are a lot of possibilities, aren't there?

It will be VERY exciting waiting for her foal to be born, and there really are a lot of possibilities, aren't there? I'm not Becky...but will try to answer your question, Sandy. Yes, there is a very good possibility that the foal could be a Medicine Hat like it's sire. The fact that Breeze is Grulla will have absolutely no effect on that. Grulla is a "color"...and Medicine Hat is a "pattern"....two different things. Whether the foal will have a "Medicine Hat" will depend on "if" the foal gets a pinto gene (unless one of the parents is homozygous...the foal will also have a chance of being solid, even if both parents are pintos) If the foal IS pinto...whether it has a medicine hat will depend on how much of a white pattern it has. "Medicine Hat" is simply a descriptive term for a horse with a basically white head that only has some color left on top (ear area). So, with the sire being a Tovero, (Tobiano & overo) and the dam being Tobiano....there are many different pinto "patterns" that are possible, ranging from a mostly white Medicine Hat (like the sire) to mostly dark with just a spot or two of white. It's a guessing game...at best. But, oh...isn't it fun to think about while waiting for the little one to get here!

Thanks so much, dona! And yes, it's so VERY exciting! It's better than opening Christmas presents! And I found that while I SO much wanted a colorful foal out of Mama, about two minutes after Lucy's birth I couldn't have cared less!
Dona, Lucy is an absolutely amazing filly. And I'm not just saying that because I adore her, LOL!
She is really beautiful, but her personality is out of this world! I know that Moonie's personality wasn't always the best, as you've said, and Mama is not the most outgoing horse I have, but Lucy is incredible! No matter who comes to the barn, she trots right up to them and lets herself be nuzzled and touched and loved up. She'll let anyone grab her ears, legs, or face. She doesn't shy away, and always follows people all over. She'll stop eating to play! There have been so many times I was in the paddock with all the horses and she'll be standing by me and I'll start running away, and she runs after me. Then it becomes a game. I quickly turn and run the other direction and she spins around and gets right back on my heels. It's like playing tag!
In some twisted, sick way I hope she STINKS at her first show or two and the trainers tell me she's hopeless so I can bring her back home!
We take her on Mar. 4. I think I'll cry the entire ride home!
