Do you think it'l be tonight ? (You know, like for the musical, West Side Story) LOL Spring is looking reeeeady. Bag tight this morning, 'beads' on the end of her nipples. Milk is still watery, but getting some stickiness to it. I figure she is at the point where she could go from 'not ready' to 'ready' in just a few hour's time. ;D ;D ;D I get EXCITED LOL Actually, I wish she would wait till this ice storm is over. I worry about the power going off and having to deliver a foal in the DARK! And not to mention cold. It wes 12 this morning....after weeks and weeks of 60s and 70s! course it stays above freezing in the barn even with all windows open a bit. I just close the big overhead vent when it goes below 15 degrees. But sure would be nice to have this 'black and white filly' in the 70 degrees! ;D Off to check on Spring Charlotte

I'll be expecting to see that 'new foal' message in my email! Heck, Misty could likely go tonight too! It could be an all night party! And I'm not looking foward to it in my cold mare barn! Brrrr.....

How exciting! Shall we make bets on which mare foals first? May be a photo finish! hehehe

How exciting for the both of you, but if it's that cold I hope your mares would be considerate and wait a day or two!
I remember when Lucy was born the night temperatures were 40º and I bought some heaters to put near the stall and hung a heat lamp over it as I was so worried about her freezing!
We had such an incredibly warm January and February. Just last Tuesday it was 50º! And two days later we had an 8" snow storm with night time temps hitting 40 below with the windchill!
That's why I never want a foal any earlier than late May! I can always heat up the barn, one way or another, but I can't stand going outside in this weather!

Good luck to both of you. I think Charlotte's mare will foal first and both will be fillies!!! ;D

Well, obviously it wasn't last night! LOL So maybe TONIGHT! I don't think she can get much 'readier'. Last night she only set the beeper off once...so that is a change. that's what I look for. and deviation from what is usual for the mare. I'm waiting for Spring to stand in a different corner to sleep. that's it every time!

Do you find that they lay down less the farther along they get...due to comfort??? Just curious since Tess is staying down less and less and she looks so ready.

NO foal yet for Charlotte that I know of but, Heather, yes, the mares generally lay down less the closer they get to foaling. Especially laying flat out. That seems to be the least comfortable position for them. Good thing too as we humans get really tired of listening to that Breeder Alert pager go off with a snoozing mare!
