I am so sorry for your lost. It sounds like your Samantha did like some of our goats did. I thought my deworming program was working until one of the goats would become sick and die from worms. May time lessen the pain for you.

Thanks everyone for being so supportive and for all of your well wishes and prayers. You don't know how much it means to me. Really warms the heart.
Mike did an autopsy on Samantha. She had a big black baby. He didn't check the sex but I'm guessing it was a boy due to it's size. It had been dead for about 24 hours. He also found that worms did not kill her. They didn't help her, I'm sure. The baby was breach and her uterus was twisted. I did discuss this with my vet earlier but he didn't think this was the case because she wasn't acting like she was in pain and he thought she would have died after 2 days. I found out that a llama with uterine torsion will sometimes act colicky then just lay around and be depressed. So now I'm really at odds with myself. Actually hate myself for not going ahead with a c-section days before. I hope that when we meet again Samantha will greet me with a great big stinky spit! Then lots of kisses. LOL. Some friends and I were discussing some of the mares that had problems this year. I said that I have had llamas for 11 years and have never had any major birthing problems but I knew my time was coming. Well it did with a vengeance. But I am looking at it as a great learning experience. Trying to anyway. I have been there with goats and never seen anything like this. Was really baffling. I hope I'm ready for the next go round which may be very soon. I can tell you one thing. Heather and all who had problem births this year, I know how you felt while waiting for the next baby. Scared to death. I'll try to post some pics of my llamas on another thread one day. I have had people ask about them and will be glad to share them with you, if you like. Once again, thanks for all the love.

Gigi - Take comfort in the fact that you did what you thought best for Samantha. You are a loving, caring person and you give your all for your furbabies. Don't let this get you down - you have other furbabies that depend on you - be there for them and always remember Samantha with love in your heart. My sympathies for sweet Samantha...and hugs for you.

I was sorry to hear about your loss of Samantha and even more deeply saddened to hear that you are blaming yourself. I've learned over the years that the hardest thing about life is being able to admit that we can never, no matter how hard we want it or try, can know it all, be it all etc. We must live with our inadequacies and I know it sucks but that's just life. You, me and whoever else out there that is loving and caring for some critter just cannot have all the answers to guarantee that their lives will be safe and happy, we can only try. That is all that God has allowed us, is the ability to try. You did your part, God would be proud of your effort and that is what counts.
