This little girl is going to drive me crazy. As you all may remember, Melody (Banner's foal) coliced in May at the age of 4 weeks and ended up having surgergy -- which found a large hairball made up of the mare's tail hair. She was recovering so well, until 12 days ago. She had another colic episode, but after tubing was passing normal manure within 24 hours so I figured it may have been something she ate. I had some nasty weeds starting to regrow in the paddock. Now she's at it again. She was tubed last night and I'm just waiting to see if something starts to pass... or if we're making another trip to the hospital. Anybody have any similar problems in foals? Thanks, Wendi www.marestare.com/chesapeake.htm

So sorry the here that sweet little Melody is being colicky again. I pray that she doesn't need another trip to the Vets !
Fortunately I can say that I haven't even had this particular problem, but I have heard of several foals being SO curious that that they always seemed to be getting in trouble, OR eating something that wasn't good for them and getting a stomach ake.
Sounds like Melody is such a foal, and that she needs allot of (horse safe) toys to play with. ;D
Give That beautiful Banner & Melody a hug & , and Good Luck!

Wendi, sorry to hear that Melody's not well again. Hopefully tubing will help and she will soon be back to normal. I dont know much about mini foals but a friends two grown warmbloods, one is as tough as old boots, the other gets colicky over anything including her dinner being 15 minutes late.

Wow - I'm so sorry that you're facing this again. With Dancer we've just had to keep her food wet - and they suggested doing that for the remainder of her life, and she's 2 right now. But it's a small task to handle when it may make the differnece in her sticking around with us or not.
Best wishes - please keep us posted.
