There was a foaling last evening that was heartbreaking to the family and to the Mare Stare family for this mare had been watched for over a month. In reviewing the posts on the forum I feel some concern.
It is easy to become attached to the mares/mothers on the board and to their farm families. This is a wonderful thing because it draws everyone closer together as a family and lets everyone watch out for each other. However, sometimes we allow our concerns to be voiced in a manner that is, or seems to be critical.
I am not discouraging anyone on posting...please post away and share your thoughts, your love and your support, but really consider your words and thoughts before you share them. Make sure that they won't be interpreted as being critical or mean.
As a cam owner, and a cam watcher I can understand that things go on behind the scenes that are not visible on the cams. We have to respect the rights and the opinions of the cam/farm owners. When they shut a cam off it is usually to discourage negative feedback.....and usually when it's left on during a bad birth it is met with praise and thanks for sharing a learning experience.
The experience last night will most likely keep this farm from having a cam again, and that is unfortunate because, from what I understand it was calls from viewers that alerted them that the mare was foaling. The cams may have saved the life of the mare....I am uncertain as to all that went on.
What I am trying to say here is that we do not want to discourage anyone from having a cam online. There are so many benefits to it and so many mares/foals have been saved with them. Let's think before we post and use the chat room or a private messaging system to discuss things that may be viewed as critical. And by all means call me if you have concerns. I can usually get in touch with an owner.
I wish everyone a safe and happy foaling season filled with love and support from all viewers.
