Last week I read an article somewhere on one of the forums about finding some small yellow coloring on their horses legs. It had responses that said they were some kind of blot (?) fly eggs or something like that. I can't rub them off and are only on the end of hair shafts. I just got 4 new minis yesterday and 2 of the mares have this. I don't know If I should turn them out with my other minis in a few days. PLEASE help me as I cant find that article where it had the info on this subject. Thank you so much for your help. Linda

They are called bot eggs and are laid by bot flies. They won't hurt your others, but you should try to get rid of them. Take a piece of sandpaper and rub in the direction of the hair - this will usually pull them off. The feed and tack stores usually sell either a bot knife (looks a bit like a comb with very short teeth) or a "block" which works the best. The horse usually ends up injesting them when they chew on the spot the egss are to itch, and then the eggs hatch into larvae inside the horse. Worming will get rid of internal bots, but it is still best to get rid of the eggs if you can.
