Has anyone ever heard of a horse getting darker with age?? Casper has gotten exponentially more dark hairs in his coat recently. Especially in mane and tail and on back.

Amby hun, being that he is a maximally expressed sabino is it very likely that he will get dark spots that will change, move, get bigger, and smaller with each shedding. It is not abnormal since his base color is dark.

awsomeness!! I love it, each day his coat seems to change (as does him temperment) the vet has said that the fat (rice bran oil) in his diet will also help!! I might add that he is very peeved today, because he got a bath earlier. But he is STUNNINGLY white. Dad is going to take some pics of him tomorow, so I'll try to get them up as soon as possible.

It's not unusual for maximums and other whites to change seasonally. As their winter coats come in so does the color. I have seen this. Color in winter, little or no color come summer. I was told the color is in the undercoat and being that it's thicker in winter you notice it more. Don't know if that's true or not but sounds possible from what I have seen.

I can see that. I wonder if he only has his undercoat right now?? He's been in blankets for awhile and doesn't have much of a coat. Hmmm....I think he just knows I like spots some days. (they seem bigger and bolder those days) and a white horse some days (he seems more snowy and gleaming)!! Either way, he is my baby.
