Hey everyone, mollie was able to get herself in some more trouble today. we were riding and everything was going quite nicely; she was soft, bent, supple, etc. and we were coming down from the canter. her transition was very nice and she trotted for a few steps before kicking her left hind leg with her right hind leg. this of course knocked her off balance and she started to scramble a bit to get her feet under her. needless to say this did not go so well. it felt like (of course no one actually saw the whole thing) everytime she put one foot down she stepped on the other!! she ended up sliding for about 8 ft. on her but before she sprung up into the air and cantered off. while she is not lame (yet) i think she may have done something to her back. i walked her for about 10 minutes just to make sure she didn't injure her legs or anything but she did NOT want to bend or use her back in any way after that in either direction. i put some linament across her back and down to her hocks and checked her legs for any cuts (there were none but i'm not sure how she managed not to have any) and gave her some bute. please keep her in your thoughts!! she should be fine just a little sore and of course we have a clinic this weekend we'll have to see how she's feeling!!

well i went to check on miss mollie today and it was raining so she was inside to begin with. although she is not "lame" she is DEFINATELY sore. i didn't ride her just lounged her so she could move around and stretch and she just braced all in her neck and dropped her back etc. chances are she pulled a muscle somewhere in her back or hindquarters so it doesn't look like we'll be doing any heavy work for a week or so - i guess that means no clinic for us tomorrow! i think this is the third time she has injured herself before a clinic/show and of course those are the only three times she has ever injured herself!!!!!! silly girl.........

Have you tried stretching her? Get a treat or something she really likes, stand with your back againts her side and hold the treat in your hand farthest from her head (if you are on her left side then this will be your left hand) make her bring her head around without moving her feet and getting the treat from your hand.. sometimes thier necks will even pop! My horses love this stretch... I do it two times on each side, and the second time i make them reach farther...
The next stretch i do is get the treat and make them bend down and put their heads through their front legs to get the treat... This stretches the whole topline, make sure to not make her go too far, but this should help a bit.
My vet always recommends stretching! Being an athlete myself, i know how important stretching is.

we do both of those stretches allllllllll the time!!!! they really do work well. i went up to see mollie today and hopped on with out western saddle (it's a kids saddle so MUCH smaller and lighter than our dressage one) and walked all around outside. she definately wasn't her norm but by the end had stretched out and if i wasn't looking for stiffness i probably wouldn't have found it!!
