Go to www.endurance.net/RideCamp/archives/query.asp and try typing skunk spray and skunk smell. There are several people who mention using a combination of peroxide and baking soda. LOTS of folks there have dealt with this as well, so LOTS of responses there to look through! It's a list for endurance riders and has thousands of members all over the world. Steph

If all else fails, try Skunk-Off pet shampoo. We had to use it at the clinic once because the dog got skunked a few days before it boarded, and man, did it stink! I don't know how they put up with the smell!

We had this happen to our German shepard a few years ago. The thing that really works is women's douche....Massengill, etc any brand will work.
I know it sounds crazy, but it really cut the skunk odor. After this happened we were talking to pheasant hunters and they knew about it. As they carry it with them in their trucks while hunting in case their hunting dogs get sprayed.
Just keep in mind people WILL stare at you a bit when you are in line buying 8-10 bottles of the stuff ! LOL Our dog was quite large so it took quite a bit to clean him up, as he got most of his body sprayed.
I had to go buy more the next day and decided to go to a different store, so the same employees at the first store did not see me buying more in bulk ! I can only imagine what was going through their minds. LOL

Thanks for all the replies.....We washed her with a recipe off the internet and it worked!!! she just smells like a normal dog now!!! I never thought i would like the smell of a dog!!!!! but our house is awful....All the windows and doors are open.....i have febreezed everything....am washing loads and loads of laundry...bedsheets stink....even clothes hanging in the sunroom stink! I washed all my barn clothes.....i guess it will go away in time.....at least it's bearable now....i quit puking and was able to eat something this afternoon. Hubby came home and helped me. The recipe is: 1 Quart of 3 percent Hydrogen Peroxide 1/4 Cup Baking Soda 1 Teashoohoo of Dawn Dish Soap ~ use the original blue stuff (breaks up the oils in the skunk spray... the baking soda and peroxide take care of the smell).
This will fizz when mixed so use it right away. It will explode if you try to store it, so make only what you will use. You can always make more if you need it.
Use like a shampoo. Work into the dog's coat thouroughly, but be careful of the dog's eyes. Use a wash cloth around the eyes. Rise thouroughly.
This works great and it is really cheap to make. One application de-skunked a dog hit at point blank range!!!
Thanks again everybody!!!

My boyfriend also has used douche on himself after getting sprayed. He thought it was a cat, but that's another story! LOL. He's been hit more than once too. I have used the peroxide mix myself on my dog. It worked great! And I already had the ingredients so I was able to kill the smell then and there. I learned after the first time she got sprayed to leave her outside until I got my shampoo mixed up. Then she was carried straight to the tub. Otherwise she rubbed all over everything. One thing I found that helped get the odor out of the couch and chair was OUT! cat urine/spray remover. You can get this at Walmart. Works great on cat spray too.

I read on the internet at the time our dog got sprayed to put charcoal briquettes on newspaper around the house to absorb the skunk smell within the house.
As my husband put our German Sheperd in the basement in his large pet carrier, before we could bathe him. We have an open staircase from the basement to the rest of the house, so the smell carried all through the house.
We could not leave the dog outside after a bath since it was January and very cold outside.
The charcoal did seem to help. Steph
