Some of you may remember this post maremulligan.proboards40.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1146837128&page=1 that i had posted about my horses injured left eye (which has since healed) well earlier tonight i got a phone call from the barn saying that when they brought her in for the night her Right Eye is swollen shut. They are giving her bute and putting warm compresses on it and the vet is coming first thing in the morning. I am praying that it is not an ulcer again. I remeber how much pain she was in last time So if you please send your prayers it would be greatly appreciated

Oh, Nikki, I'm so sorry. Some horses tend to get eye ulcers, something about their habits or the architecture of their eye causes recurrences. It's just a good thing that you are catching it quickly and treating it aggressively. After a few repetitions, the protocols will be very familiar and not so disconcerting. Also, as far as I know, eyeballs do not sense pain, so don't feel too badly about that aspect of it. The swelling and peripheral damage (maybe from rubbing) might bother her, but she probably isn't in pain, as such. Keep a tube of opthalmic antibiotic handy and irrigate the eye with saline solution. Bute will help with the swelling. And keep light out of the eye. (Fly mask with duct tape over the eye area on the mask will work.) Good luck!

So the vet came out today and turns out it is an Ulcer..again. The good news its not as bad as last time. She is still getting antibotics and bute though. I went by the barn today right after school and Summer was her same goofy self. She knew before i even got into the barn that i had a big bag of carrots with me and she started makin noises at me to get me to hurry up. So even though its not the best of news at least its not like the last time it happened

Sending healing white light for her. There are some great stones when made into an elixir can help also.
