How do you guys pick the names for your horses that are born on your farms? Do you have a certain theme or just go by the personality?

bonnienin, I think it could be a little of both. Sometimes it is one or the other, and then again sometimes we have contest on Mare Stare, where poeple can send in names and one is picked that way.

Sometimes I go by themes with the llamas. I have 2 bug names this year. Kricket and Doodle Bug. All of my babies by a previous stud had indian names because he did. I get some of my names just by watching the baby a few days. And sometimes I hear or read a name I like. And I'm always open to suggestions when I'm stuck without one. I like to include one of the parent's names in the babies' names also.

My favourite part of breeding.. naming the beautiful foals. I always like to have the stallions name in the foals name if I can ... and sometimes ad the name of the mare... I don't generally have themes and paddock names are usually what rolls off the tongue or a short version of their name... 2006 foals were Silhouette All That Jazz (aka Buttons) Silhouette A Perfect Storm (aka Ace) Silhouette Storms Bedazzled (Dazzle) Silhouette Storms Fantasy (Fanta) Silhouette Storms Illusive Miss (Misty)
Love it..

Well first part of reg names for all my foals is MYSTERY. Next I look at parents pedigrees and decided want names I like mixed together.
As for barn names some times it's part of registered name and some times it something else.
I do like to try to use names that are not heard of lots.
Here is how I got one foals name:
Grandsire: Ddare
Dam Shania
Filly's name Mystery ShaDdare Nick name: ShaDdare.
Another one:
Mystery Royale Desire sired by CR Royale Coppersin. I knew I wanted royale in the name. I found the filly was every thing I desired for Pintabian foal, so decided to do Mystery Royale Desire. Nick name Desire.
