I haven't been volunteering out at the zoo in quite a while, but I just got an e-mail from the head Veldt keep and wanted to pass along the message. Last Monday, our oldest giraffe, Edie, died. She had very sever arthritis and was not getting around very well at all. She also had a pretty bad case of intestinal parasites that wouldn't go away, even with treatment, which led to chronic diarrhea. I'm not clear on whether she died or if she was euthanized. At least now she is pain-free
