Well what a bad 7 days I have had, first Mercedes leg and side injured from elk, then one of our dogs injures his back some how and now my 13 year old gelding who happens to be out of my first horse and also is my first foal ever, started having issues on the weekend with bowel movement. So took him into vet and found out he either has melanoma the size of a mans hand or abscess in rectum, that is blocking most of the rectum so he can hardly get any thing out. So he is on meds for week if we see him getting better there is hope we are told.
Vet says it is in such a bad spot and unless it goes down he may colic soon.
I sure hope it's an abscess and goes down with meds. If not I may have to say good by to my dear friend, as it can not be removed.
So Trix will be in my foaling stall with web cam, which I will have turned on between 5/6pm-10pm, so I can notice any changes for the better.

I have prayed and prayed for a good start to this year - but it has been so odd for so many. I'm sorry to hear that you are continuing to have issues. Please know we're praying for you....
Hugs....

Thanks Heather.
It seems to be the bad year for many your right.
This year reminds my family of the year 2000, when every thing went down hill. In 2000 I lost Trix's mom to Twists gut, had my first foal of the season die minutes after birth, had one mare need 5 peoples help foaling out. So this year really is reminding me of that year. Hope this does not happen every 7 years!!!
Let's all having a bad year try to remember the good. I know it's hard.

O.k. Trix up date:
He is still having some issues with bowel movement, but seems to be getting more out at a time and is not laying down lots any more. We hope he is in the clear, but am not 100% sure yet. Am still barning him at night, just so I can see how much he went over night. I did move him out of foaling stall and put Mercedes in.

i know what you mean about bad things it has not been a banner year for myself and alot of people i know..i was wonderin at one point if the planets were all out of alignment or somethin crazier than that was goin on...it seemed as though everywhere there was sadness or chaos or tragedy..so to all in need we must ban together and will goodness and peace on all that we know..if this world really revolves around energy (good and bad) then we all need to try and think the best positive thoughts we can and turn the tides.it can't hurt ..so i am gonna try real hard not to get down and think the worst..i will keep all in need in my heart and pray that things will continue to get better.

Amen Tracey! It indeed has been a strange start. I keep praying for everyone to have safe foalings and that only good things happen around them.

Yeah, I'm in the club too, of pretty much being done with 2007. Can it be 2008 now?
We've had the worst/wierdest winter for weather in memory, my stallion cut his head open (while I was away, of course), then *4* freakin horses turned up with mud fever. We've never had fungus problems before! And it's certainly no muddier than it has been past years.
Then to top it all off, February 1, my mare Renske Welmoed - best broodmare, best bloodlines, best riding horse I have - passed away after colic surgery, along with her unborn foal.
I'm trying to look at it this way... it can only get better from here... sigh

TRIX is doing great!!! So it must of been an abscess. He is still on meds to Saturday. I am feeding him a mix to keeps every thing in side his bowels loose. Mercedes can now put weight on back foot. Even put her out in field to run around with other mares yesterday. Elk are still a huge issue, but we have been told we can shoot them. Our dog's back is getting better every day. Now if only we could get this stooped weather gone. I am sick of snow. Got over a foot in last 5 days. So I'd say we have had 4-5 feet this year. It looks like we should be going into Jan instead of March.
