Okay.. sorry if this has already been talked about. Can someone tell me the process of testing hair for the DNA? And the approx. cost? Thanks,

I probably varies with each breed association, but with APHA we send off for a dna kit and they are $60. They send you back the kit with instuctions on how to do it. Pretty much on older horses you pull mane hairs out about 30 of them and tape them to the paper. Foals have to be pulled from the tail. All stallions have to DNA'd for APHA and any foal resulting from Cooled, frozen, embryo transfer all have to be parentage verified. Hope that helped some. Brittany

thanks.. My mare is a paint and impressive bred, hypp n/n and they require dna tested for the Azteca registry. I am going to breed with Andalusian.

Alright so since she is APHA contact them and order a DNA kit ($60). Then they will send the kit in the mail to you. Pull the mane but be sure to keep the roots all together. Then you send back your DNA kit and they will mail you this cheesy little postcard saying that the DNA is on file.
