Oh wow - what a great thread. Heather, yes, my eyes are still filled with tears Shammy, so sorry for your loss too! And Julie what a sweet story. And the others are so clever too. Well, our farm, Rockin' B Paints may not seem so original, but my husbands dad's farm name is Rollin' B Farm... soooo.... Rockin' and Rollin'... get it? LOL! And of course the "B" stands for our last name - Burke. Cindy

I've already posted on this thread, but I have really enjoyed reading everyone's stories . I just wanted to add something...many of the ladies have mentioned having a supportive husband, or a husband that loves horses as much as you do or grew up with horses. I hope you all know how lucky you are . While my hubby is otherwise a great guy, he couldn't care less about horses. He complains that our truck smells like horse (well, duh!), refuses to go out to the farm with me, and says the only way I am getting my own farm is if we win the Lotto. My oldest daughter is afraid of horses, and although my youngest can ride and used to show saddleseat, she doesn't LOVE horses and would not be upset if she never gets on one again. Of course, that doesn't mean I've given up on my dream lol. I just have to be creative about how I get it . I just wanted to tell you that you are all very lucky to be able to share your love of horses with the men in your life. Yes I am jealous . Julie

Well, my husband is supportive to an extent. He'll help with chorse if he has to. He builds all our barns because the horses need to have shelter - we have safe fencing to keep the horses safe, but if you ask him they are just EVIL hahaha

My screen name is Amby because my name is Amber and my father has called me Amby since I was little. Though my little stable includes only one boarded gelding (my BABY). Casper and I call ourselves Little Corner of Heaven stables. I have wanted to name a stable that since I was very young. Hopefully someday Casper will be a very old horse with his own pasture and unlimited hay on my warmblood/sporthorse farm. I have the barn layout drawn out and everything. So maybe after we get back from Gainseville (UF) with a PhD of Equine Reproductive Phsyiology we'll make enough money to build that 90 stall barn with indoor arena. only God knows what is in store.

Post by Kelly's Draft Horse Wishes on Mar 2, 2007 21:42:00 GMT -5
My screen name use to be just Draft Horse Wishes, but I added Kelly so everyone could call me by my name - I was starting to take tpersonally that people were referring to me as "Draft Horse" ;-) as I am a bit overweight!!! Right now, this is all I have...draft horse wishes...just beginning the search for next new member of the family. And my husband and I have just begun the search for property for us to open a boarding/lesson barn (the draft horse is purely an indulgance for me - I just LOVE the drafts!). As for a name for our barn...I'm still mulling this over in my mind...I was fortunate to have owned the most wonderful horse of my life, JL's Leading Act One - he was my lovely, Morgan gelding to whom I owe my sanity & mental health (ok, and a good dose of counseling . I purchased him after being the victim of a violent robbery/rape in 1990...I felt I needed something to think about other than myself...and he was the perfect recipe for healing. He was my joy and my friend when I wondered who I could trust. I had him until he was 22 years old. His call-name was Pogo (for his god-awful - but beautiful - bone-jarring trot...great for English Pleasure - crummy for bareback!). I'd love to incorporate Pogo's name (call-name or registered) into our farm, but I'm not creative enough to come up with anything so far ( I'm open to suggestions). Since others have shared husband-participation, I have to brag on my wonderful husband...he is enthusiastically supportive and can't wait to get started on the next stage of our lives...but I have to add - he knows NOTHING about horses! He loves them, however, and is eager to learn. All of you have such wonderful stories to tell...Heather my heart breaks for your loss...good luck to all who's farms are in thier hearts and dreams

My screen name came about for my love and obsession with Paint horses. I purchased a black Breeding Stock Paint mare in 1994. Although she was well bred, my primary use for her was trail riding and what a trail companion she turned out to be. She'd take you anywhere you asked her to go and was a "drop the reins, relax" type of mare. At the age of 5, for an unknown reason, she began to limp on her right front. Through an exam and X-Rays we learned that she had chipped her Navicular bone and could no longer be ridden. She was deemed by the vet to be pasture sound and became our broodmare. She has had 5 beautiful colored Paint babies thus far, two of which are gorgeous black and white Paints that we have retained for trail riding.
A few years ago I opened a new chapter of my life and began breeding parrots. I started with c o c k atiels and Love Birds and later added breeding pairs of Sun Conures, Green Cheek Conures and Yellow Naped Amazons. Then I began taking parrots in on Consignment, my first being a male Mollucan C o c k a t o o named Paco, who I became so attached to, that I bought him myself. I have acquired several other pet birds along the way including a Lilac Crown Amazon named Troy, a Blue and Gold Macaw named Lola and a Sun Conure named Kit. Due to the time involved in hand feeding baby birds, I am no longer breeding them. I mainly just Board Parrots at this time and occasionally take them in on Consignment. So with all the screaming and chirping and squawking and talking, what else would I call this place, other than "Raisin' A Racket"?
