This happend in Edmonton Alberta February 5, 2007 Many Prayers needed for this family. Farm's Website kallecoranch.com/Article from Edmonton Sun Sunday March 4, 2007 Owners of a British Columbia equestrian training college are champing at the bit to help a Leduc County ranch family devastated by fire. Eleven horses and a dog died in a blaze that destroyed the Kallechy family's barn and riding arena on Feb. 5 at the Kalleco Ranch near Highway 14 and Range Road 225, southeast of Edmonton. Now, Dawn and Dave Collins, who run the Equine College of Equine Therapy in Vernon, B.C., are organizing a fundraising dinner, dance and silent auction to help the family rebuild. "We just want to help out in any way we can and help them replace some of the stuff they lost," Dawn said yesterday, adding members of the Kallechy family are graduates of the college. "They were just so hard hit. We want to reach out." The fire at the Kallechy's equine training facility claimed two mares, a stud horse, three yearlings and five foals. The family's pet rottweiler, named Seven, also perished in the blaze. With no equipment and no buildings left, Cindy and Bob Kallechy, and their kids Ellisha, Keellie and James, were left without a place to house their 39 animals. Damage from the fire was estimated at $300,000. The family had insurance. The fundraiser is scheduled for 6 p.m. March 17 at the South Cooking Lake Community League hall. "It's going to be a rootin' tootin' good time with lots of good food and good music," Dawn said.
