Finally Complet ..I think....for now

Ok so I have been a slacker about posting around here so this will be WAY long but i know you all missed me so you wont mind!

First as far as my Mustangs BabyDoll is great I am thinking of Breeding her come Next Year we will see, As for toby wow what a mess So far I contacted my Local vet who said they would come out and use a Dart gun to sedate him so that they could cut the halter off BUT it would cost me 120$ an hour, so I called up the BLM who first said they should be able to help me find someone who could help.... but then called back and said since he is Titled NOPE cant help! so then the local vet calls back and says NOPE the no longer have the meds that are used in dart guns so they cant do that!... so then I go and call the State vet whos says well we cant really help you because we wont use drt guns because if we miss and hit a person we lose out liense and all that... But you can file a neglect report which can lead to charges for this lady letting his Halter stay on so long and get this way.... *sigh* I have heard nothing back that was the beginning of last week. so in the End poor Tobys Halter is still ON I have gotten close enough to touch the buckel but then he got scared and ran. I am trying so very very hard and everywhere is a dead end and No one will help and is seems no one will be held responsible... :cries:

Is it possible to put some sort of sedative in his feed? I have faith that you will find a way, Dianne. It may just take more time for him to build up his trust for you.

9 years ago, I started feeding a stray dog that we knew for a fact had been put out by a neighbor AFTER being badly abused. Then, while she slowly starved to death on the street, the rest of the neighborhood chased her off by throwing rocks at her. Even the kids. I started feeding her behind my house, and after 2 months she finally trusted me enough so I could touch her. That is when I realized her collar was the same as Toby's halter. It was several more weeks before she would let me touch her neck and remove the collar. Happy ending...we gained her full trust, moved her into the house, found out she had severe heartworm AND was pregnant, she delivered a healthy litter and was treated for the heartworm and now lives with my mother-in-law. She is an awesome, loyal dog. So don't give up...be patient...baby steps ;D.

Okay here is my thought I have no clue if it will work or not but its an idea. Maybe try feeding him the quietex in a small pen, then try to get him into a chute of some sort maybe use corral panals? Once he is in the chute you can sedate him IM will take longer but will still have the same effect. Then maybe be able to take the halter off. I know you want to work on trust with him but I think your first obligation is to help him get that halter off.
I don't know but worth a shot. My brothers mustangs were different horses when they felt they had nowhere to go. If Shadow was in a stall you could do anything with her, but out in the open you couldnt get near her. Just a thought, I hope something works out for you!

Well tomorrow the investigator from the state vets comeing to look at him WOW almost a month later and we see action, Im not sure anything will come off it but well its a start. They are thinking we may just have to take our chance get close enough and use a knife to cut it off fast and go from there at this point it just needs off! I will update again tomorrow after the visit
