I am sitting here in pittsburgh, my car died yesterday and asking myself what am i doing in a city without any horses and decided thats it. nothing for me here. I have worked with horses and all animals all my life ( I am 49) worked on numerous farms, trained taught even raised angus cows. Had 5 horse of my own (4 rescues) but about 10 years when my mom was dying had to sell them all to help her out. Don't need much a room where i can have my animals and maybe enough $ to get a can of iced tea and animal food. I am extremely easy going.

Actually, there is an apartment for rent over the garage at the farm where I work. I believe it is still available, with immediate occupancy. It is located in Howell, Michigan, about 30 minutes east of East Lansing. It is pet friendly, and of course there is horse boarding available as well. It has one bedroom, one full bath, laundry room, family room and kitchen. All kitchen appliances are included, and there are hook-ups for washer and dryer in the laundry room. You do have to go up a flight of stairs to get to it, as it is over a 3 car garage.
I don't think the farm owner is willing to exchange rent for work, but it is about 5 minutes from town . You could inquire about the possibility of working off some rent though.
If you are interested, PM me and I will give you a contact number.

There are many dude ranches and guest ranches around the country always looking for help. Some have board included. There is one in Madison Ga. Beautiful with two hundred horses and called Southern Cross. Look it up. Very nice people and the winters wouldn't be as bad. I'm from Pgh too. Live in FL now. Good Luck.
