Something is wrong with my boy!! Today when I was working my boy, he stopped to pee in the pasture. And you need to know that when he pees right now he stops, works for a minute then he goes for a few seconds, stops and then there is a splash. He doesn't extend until after he pees and only an inch or two. So after that I tacked him up and took him out to lunge him, after a few steps he camped out, and strained. He didn't pee, so i got him moving again. After a few steps he did it again, and we continued this until I asked for a trot, he trotted for a few steps then broke into a canter. When I took him back to a walk he started stopping again. He urinated again after about 15 or 20 minutes. His normal body temperature is 99 and he was at 100.5, so fever isn't an issue, I looked in the sheath and it is again filled with a red tinged smegma (he was cleaned just 3 weeks ago) Also, he seems very lethargic today, but he was out all day and it is 85 degrees out so it could be the weather. I have called my vet but he is out on farm calls and hasn't called me back yet. Anyways, do yall think my horse just doesn't want to work or what do you think??

Did you use any sort of product on your horse when you cleaned his sheath? Does he have a bean? Those are the only things I could think of. Is there a chance he got kicked? Is the sheath area swollen?

I used excalibur to clean his sheath, and I rinsed VERY well, he didn't have a bean when I cleaned him, but maybe I did it wrong. His sheath wasn't hugely swollen. Just a little bit bigger than normal!! I'm going to check for a bean again tonight, and if it is large I'll have the vet come remove it.

Yes, Dr. Vaughn came and looked him over. We have determined that Casper was being silly there is nothing wrong with his urinary tract, he just likes to go alot. He did say if we have a fever or straining then I should worry. However he did diagnose Casper of having horrendous eye allergies (I knew that tearing and swelling wasn't normal) after numerous drop treatments, we have put casper on Tri-Hist granules and hope that this will clear it up. If it doesn't we will investigate possible alternative therapies or possible another problem as the cause.
