My larger mini mare (39") Cookie is expecting her third foal this season. She foaled out the other two without me You know how sneaky these mares are. Any who, I have calculated the due date(s) to be: @320 days - April 16th @340 days - May 5th And for the 352 days that it took last year - May 15th
Last year she had NO milk come in, so I couldn't go by her udder at all.
My question is: Because she didn't have milk, do you think that is why the birth was sooooo late? The only thing the Vet & I could figure out is that there was some fescue in the hay that I fed and that is why she did not get her milk in. The first year she foaled records are not so good (daaaaa) and she foaled outside late afternoon anyway....so can't use her maiden year for any help in calculating.
I am hoping to cam the cam up & going for the 15th so that all my Mare Staren friends can watch her for me in the middle of the night so I can get a wake up call so MAY BE this year I can actually watch my foal get here ;D

OK Laura, let us know when you get it hooked up and we'll give you a hand in watching her. Us mare starers wouldn't want you to miss her foaling this year. Love to help ya. Last year I had some fescue problems too. Nothing really bad, but when one of my mared foaled she had a very hard bag and we couldn't express any milk, so the vet gave her a shot to things start going in the right direction. Worked good.

We had bad storms the other day, and my computer's mother board Internet connection was trashed So now I am not sure if my husband will get it fixed soon enough to put my Cookie on Mare Stare The computer that I am using now is not mine, and isn't going to work for that either as it is a small laptop, and I can hardy read the screen I'm lucky that I have made it back here at all waaaaaaawaaaaaa And it has turned cold again.

Sorry to hear your bad news Laura. Maybe things will work out for you. Lets hope anyway. It's cold here too. Such crazy weather we all are having this year. Good luck with your computer.

Congrats Laura on your upcoming foal. We'd love to help you watch..... I agree with your vet that there may have been fescue in her hay which caused her to not get milk. There are herbs you can give to increase the milk production - you could give them to her the last month of pregnancy (now)....Fenugreek is one of them.....drop me an IM or go to www.glenbrookfarm.com/store/horse_1.html (where I get my herbs) They have alot of good formulas and bulk herbs. We use raspberry leaves the last month as well......strengthens and tones the uterus.

Well I got the camera up & running this afternoon. Unfortunately there is some sort of electrical pulse interference going on with the picture. My husband the 'Electrical Engineer' is going to try to get rid of interference (I hope)
Anyway, hopefully after all the bugs are worked out we'll get'er connected to Mare Stare so all you Starers can see my sweetie Cookie
