Can someone tell me how to roach a mane? Does it have to be done with clippers? It seems like scissors wouldn't work right. Anyone know of a site with step by step pics on how to do it? This is a mule mane, not horse, & it won't grow, darn it! It's sticking straight up, about 6 inches! Thanks!

When I roached a mules mane last year I took my clippers and started on his forelock and go all the way down his crest. I leave just a tiny bit at the withers to help with chaffing from the saddle blanket (just an extra layer). I do the same thing with my parents appy mare who has no mane but we leave her forelock and the wither mane. Hope that helps. Just pretend you are giving him a buzz cut LOL.
