I am new to marestare but have seen a number of 'angel foals' that occur for different reasons ie foal too big, breech presentation, etc.
My question is do vets/owners use ultrasound late in pregnancy to determine the fetal position and size and if so, are there interventions such as attempting to turn the foal before the birthing process begins or C-sections if it is determined that the baby is too large?
Thanks for any insight offered!!

My angel foal had nothing to do with being presented wrong. He was VERY large but then again my mare is a big mare. I think all they can do that late in the game is rectal palpation to make sure the foal is in the correct position. My mare was ultra-sounded the last time in her pregnancy at 6 months, obviously at that time the foal would NOT be in position and there is nothing you can do at that time.

Dear bndranch - thanks for that info and I am so sorry about your angel foal. As much pain and sadness as we 'watchers' feel, I know it is a hundredfold more painful for you. God bless.
