This past Friday my boyfriend and I had to put our 30 year old mare down. It was very tough for the both of us since she had been with us for so long. I know that she is in a better place and is out of pain. Now to my question!! Our Vet cut some of her tail for us and I need some ideas on what I can have made with her tail for the kids. I am doing a memory frame for them but would like to have something special made with her tail. She was our childrens horse so I really want to do something special. Thanks for your help! We will miss Ms Red and we love her so much!!

soooo sorry to hear about the loss of your mare!! when a horse of my trainer's passed away (the very horse i learned to ride on) i created a shadow box for her - it had a picture, a poem, one of her horseshoes, and a braided lock of her tail. it looked REALLY pretty and my trainer absolutely loved it.

If you do a search on 'pet memorial jewelry', you can find lockets to place the tail hair in, also there are folks who braid tail hair into bracelets, belts, hat bands, you can even have it made into pendants. I have been looking into having my mare's mane hair used in pottery. Tail hair can also be used. They place it on the piece and then fire it and the hair burns delicate lines into the pottery. It is beautiful. I didn't know any better and only saved her mane hair, which cannot be used in jewelry as the tail hair can I am so sorry to hear of your loss. It is so hard, but you are right, she is in a better, pain-free place, running with the others and jumping the clouds. My heart goes out to you and your family. Julie

When my old man passes away I am going to do the pottery with his tail hair in it! It is the most beautiful thing when you have a white piece of pottery with all these tiny black lines through it. Very sorry for your loss, I hope you can find something that will protray the beauty and love she did.
