Just a Friendly Warning To All

It's that time of year for all the critters to start coming out. Yesterday I was cleaning out one of my stalls, when I had a visitor. Thank goodness we have sound on our barn cam so I could call for my husband to come out. Under the hay I was cleaning up, was a small snake. It scared the crap out of me. It was just slithering all around the stall trying to hide under the bedding again. It had a pointed head and that was enough for me.!!!
I usually go out in my sandles and pull hay from a big round bale to feed with, but, NO more. I found that I had let myself get real lax in what I was doing around the barn and in the fields. It was a good wake up call for me. Please everyone, watch close to where your walking and where your hands are being put. You never know what might be there.

OH LORD Linda! I know how you feel on that one... more than once had it happen to me. It is definitely that time of year for critters. We're having those aggravating tent caterpilars right now. I'm not sure how many know this, but they are poisonous to your pregnant mare and have been known to cause abortions in mares at all stages of pregnancy..

Thanks for the Remider Linda, I'm always out at the barn in Flip-Flops. I should probably wear tennis shoes. I'm glad you and yours are alright.

We've got em here too Leslie. I've been stepping on all I see. I try to go around the bushes and trees and cut the limbs off where I see a big cobweb full of those nasty things and put em in a plastic bag for the garbage. I would hate to loose a foal b/c of those furry caterpillars.

We've had an influx of critters also, at the farm I'm at, but for us it has been feral cats lol. We went from just our barn cat last December to a total of 4 cats (3 ferals moved in). 2 were still intact, but fortunately the Foundation we run also has a program for free spaying and neutering of barn cats, so they are fixed now. But then yesterday I saw a fifth cat hanging around. Hmmm...the added mouse patrol was nice, but this is getting a little ridiculous lol.

I don't mind snakes, or even the mice, but OMG those spiders just weird me out!
