Wow, that almost made me cry. What a happy ending. I grew up in that area and remember when they built Emerald Downs although I have never been, so I really enjoyed the story for that reason too.

I am surprised that he doesn't get a sponsorship by the BUDLIGHT folks. EMD is a beautiful racetrack. The toteboard sits too high for the folks standing on the rails; you can't see the backstretch unless you back up 25 or so yards from the rail. Nice open paddock area. I haven't been to EMD yet this year but the last day I went one of the ushers in the Turf Club told me they were going to remodel some of the areas. I can't wait to get back to EMD; the season opened last week. I miss Longacres; Boeing had to go and buy it and demolish the place. The old Longacres Backstretch with the horse barns was like stepping back in time. One of the stable owners told me that the surface at Longacres was very nice. But this summer her trainer decided to take the string down to Arizona because she felt the surface was too hard at EMD then and horses weren't wanting to run as fast on it this year and getting more sore. (We had an unusually hot summer this year in the Puget Sound area btw, the track was pretty fast.) This past weekend a World Record Sprint win happened; the horse was owned bythe President of EMD, Ron Crockett. BTW EMD was also the scene of another WR... one of my favorite EMD horses "Sabertooth". Talented horse that is super fast at did well at both sprints and distances. He is an older gelding but was still pretty fast this past summer; he is a very nice looking horse. Update: Norm's Nephew ran this weekend in the Seattle Handicap against some tough company... Race 6 Sunday. Norm's Nephew took a respectable 5th.... I hope they gave him two beers even though he didn't win. He ran a good race.
Starbird Road won the race; beating Great Face (the horse that tied the WR for sprint mentioned in previous post).
