So a friend just called to inform me that one of my yearlings decided to swim in Kootenay River last night and is now on a sand bar in middle of river. I have had horses on my friends pasture from May-Nov for 3 yrs now & this has never happened before. She was hoping that my filly would be back by morning no such luck. She took all the horses to another pasture hoping she would come across since her friends are no long around. No such luck!!! So then tried grain, again no such luck. So after my farrier is done trimming some of my horses hooves, I am taking my gelding down there and will go through river to try and get my filly. Not something I want to do in high water. But I have to try. Please wish us luck!!!!

Hello we made it!!!
Ok so whole story. Turns out Desire likes going out in river to that rock/sand bar to play in the water and eat grass that is there. She always comes back my friend said, until this one time. Well reason for this is when she went across the water was clear and only just over her hooves. Well day before we had real hot temps bring spring run off down. So water was rushing & very dirty. Also deeper to her chest level.
Any how the place on other side of river had smaller area to go through, so I took my gelding across bridge to that side to go get her. Well my gelding was having non of it. So after about an hour I waded through that part of river, just as I was about to catch her, my filly steped into river and ran/swam across to her friends. Every one on other side was laughing saying she did that just to see me get wet. Any how it all worked out fine.
