TAMPA - Chester and Cowboy survived the horse rustler, but they will need to visit a veterinarian as authorities look for the person who stole the pair of horses.
"I can't wait to get them back home," said one of their owners, 15-year-old Jenna Bishop. "They are not anywhere bad anymore. … That's what I'm happy about."
The two geldings, stolen Tuesday morning from a Riverview barn, were found Wednesday afternoon at a barn in Hudson, said Kevin Doll, Pasco County Sheriff's Office public information officer.
Investigators, with search warrant in hand, recovered the horses and their saddles but had made no arrests by late Wednesday.
Authorities said they had a suspect in mind but did not release the person's name or the address where the horses were found.
Eight-year-old Chester had a gash on his hindquarters that would require stitches, said owner Pat Bishop, Jenna's father.
Cowboy, a 10-year-old buckskin quarter horse, was not hurt, Bishop said.
The horses were found after someone called in a tip to authorities, he said.
Bishop and his daughter were reunited with their horses Wednesday night in Land O' Lakes at the sheriff's livestock impound.
"I'm glad things will be back to normal," Bishop said. "I'll have to take Chester to the vet. I didn't think I would get them this soon, but I am very glad that I did."
Late Wednesday night, Jenna led the horses into the trailer for their ride back home.
She is hoping to ride her horses Saturday as part of the Sheriff's Mounted Posse at the Crosstown Arena, an event open to local youths.
The two horses were taken from the Bishops' barn at 3305 S. 54th St., Riverview. At 5 a.m. Tuesday, Bishop found the stable doors open and a crowbar on the ground in one of the stalls.
The thieves cut a hole in the fence to take the horses.
Bishop said he is taking precautions by having someone live at his property to look out for the horses.
The horses were also used for physical therapy for a 15-year-old who has ataxia, a neuromuscular disorder.
Bishop said the 15-year-old will be able to resume his therapy Tuesday. "
