On Preakness day, many are remembering Barbaro. The Washington Post has a wonderful article on the goodness (research, rescue, etc.) inspired by Barbaro's plight. You might have to register to read it, but it's worth effort if you are interested. www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/18/AR2007051802089.html?hpid=topnews(I'm watching the replay of Sunday Silence's battle with Easy Goer for the Preakness, and remembering him, too. So many noble TB stories!)

Thanks Devotee, out of tragedy comes so much good for the horse committee.
God Bless you Barbaro and the Jackson for their kindness.Have always felt if they were not his owner he would have been put down and all the advancements that have been made would not have occurred.

Chelokee, trained by Michael Matz, just won the first running of the Barbaro Stakes on the undercard at Pimlico. :-)

Enjoying this, but dreading the NBC coverage coming up - probably spend 80 minutes without seeing a horse when they take over.

At least it seems to be a little more hopeful than it looked. Ugh. I'm still shaking too hard to type. I don't really expect to see breakdowns on the turf.

And the breeders and the grooms and trainer - all the connections. Racing always brims with the best and the worst. Such a conflicting experience. So heartbroken over that beautiful horse. :-(
