Good evening everyone. I know Angie, Hope, and Mona have already filled everyone in on what is going on and I greatly appreciate your help. Gabby is in with Hope now and is doing good. Almost right after she woke up she passed a HUGE pile of poop! They are going to scope her and start with the coke wash this evening. We have checked into a hotel for the night and have ordered some dinner. Doctor Hart said that she was not going to call this evening unless it was an emergency so we will update again tomorrow. This is a picture of Gabby before she had surgery. And these are of her beautiful filly Gabby's Hart of Hope. Thanks for all the prayers. Shannon, Gabby, and lil Hope

The procedure they are doing on Gabby is called a Coke Lavarge (wash). They insert a tube in Gabby's nose and they will give her two cans of Coke. They let the Coke sit out at room temperature for approximately 10 - 15 minutes to allow the excess gas to be released. Then they will put it in Gabby's stomach. It is believed that the bubbles and the acid will break up the blockage.
This is a very new procedure, but it has been written up in the medical journals and several other large hospitals have started using this to treat this rare impaction.
As my sister Mona stated, this is the last treatment we can give to Gabby. The doctors are unable to clean out the stomach because they would have to remove the organ from the body before they opened it and they can't because it's so far up under the ribs.
They will scope Gabby tonight and then again in the morning. If the impaction is getting smaller they will continue. If it's not....we won't think about that right now.
I can't believe the outpouring of love, concern and prayers this little mare has been given. She is one heck of a fighter...one hurdle after another and she has overcome it. Let's pray that she has the strength to continue to overcome these obstacles that are put in her way.
God Bless you all and God Bless and watch over Gabby and Hope.

My thoughts and prayers have been with Gabby, Hope, Heather, Shannon, and all the family. This has been a very intense time for all of you. With the strength of all of us praying and thinking positive thoughts, hopefully Gabby will get through these difficult times. Hope is so beautiful, and it will be a great day when Gabby and Hope can go home. I have been watching Gabby on the cam for quite awhile, and I have become quite attached to her myself, as though she's my own. I feel the pain along with her human family. I admire and respect all your doing for Gabby and Hope. Love and Prayers and Hugs.

You know, it really breaks your heart to hear what you are all going thru right now. I'm keeping anything I can crossed that the coke lavage works, and just a bit of info, that beer is a good one to try as well!! And no guys, not on yourselves !! All kidding aside, continued prayers from across the seas and I really wish for them to be home in your barn soon. Forgot to add, thanks so much for sharing the pics, they are just gorgeous. I hope the Coke (who would´ve thought that it has medicinal uses in horses?) does shrink the blockage. After producing such a beautiful filly and with all the support she has on here and from her owners, she deserves to get back to her old self. I hope their will be only good news from Gabby in the days to come. Best of luck!

What sweet pictures. These animals do have a will and a fight to survive and sounds like Gabby is sure doing her part on that. Hopefully the wash will take care of things and Gabby will be up and waiting to get home soon.

Thanks so much for the pictures ... Hope is gorgeous!
We were having fierce storms here all late afternoon and night, so I didn't know about the stomach impaction until now. I've been praying for Shannon, Heather, Gabby, Hope, the vets, techs, etc, all along, and will continue to pray even harder.
I surely hope the Coke lavage works, and that you'll be able to bring both Gabby and Shannon back home to SC soon!
My heartfelt prayers and hugs for you. {{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}
