We had our last foal born last night and I was so excited it is a red & white filly, I went to check out her mouth and realized that she has an offbite of about 3/4" - 1" I think from what I can guesstimate. Does anyone have any information on offbites and how it affects them, my biggest concern is whether or not she will be able to eat normally. I appreciate any info anyone may have on this issue. Thanks

I've never checked one that soon after birth so I'm not sure if that's abnormal or not. When you consider what that little head has to go through, it's possible that the jaw was misaligned and will go back into position.
However, I'd keep a close eye on it because if it's that far off, it may affect the foal's nursing abilities.
I have spoken to our Equine dentist about the foals and yearlings mouths and he said it's not unusual for them to move. He doesn't get too worried until they are older - probably about 2.
Best wishes - we'd love to see photos and get updates!

I have spoken with 2 veterinarians and they said that we will wait and see how she is doing when she starts eating grain. Right now she is nursing just fine, she is growing good. She does chew on weeds from time to time. Thank you for your input on this topic.

As to your question about posting pictures, most ppl use photobucket.com to upload pics to (easy to join), then copy "img" link under pic and paste it in your post here, hope that helps....hope to see pics soon!
