I feel the need to post this, I found it in this format on lilbeginnings, easier to just copy and aste. Its real, my mom is pretty worked up about it... Basically what this is, is the government tracking your animals... and it will be mandatory if its not stopped now... they want to know if your horses, goats, chickens, etc. leave your property- for a trail ride, a WALK, a show, etc.- and you will be fined $1,000 for every day you are found not to be in compliance, for each animal. This is not just happening in Texas. This will become mandatory for the entire USA....

The USDA and the State of Texas plan to make every owner of even one horse, cow, pig, goat, sheep, chicken or pigeon, or virtually any livestock animal, register in a government database and subject their property and animals to state and federal government surveillance.1



Premises Identification in Texas Becomes Compulsory July 1, 2006

The state plan will “evolve” along with the national plan, which mandates:

€ EVERY HOMEOWNER with any animals must obtain a 7-digit USDA premises ID number keyed to global positioning system satellite surveillance coordinates, with all the property and owner’s information permanently stored in a database.

€ EVERY ANIMAL must be tagged with a radio frequency tag or microchip, readable at a distance, bearing a 15-digit USDA ID number. The plan may include DNA sampling and/or retinal scans of animals.

€ The owner must report, within 24 hours, every animal birth, sale, death or slaughter every missing animal every placement or loss of an ID tag and every time an animal enters or leaves the property (whether for a trail ride or participation in the county fair).

THIS PLAN WILL DRIVE SMALL FARMERS AND PRODUCERS OUT OF BUSINESS AND DISCOURAGE CITIZENS FROM RAISING ANIMALS FOR FOOD OR PLEASURE!

I believe RFD-TV had a program about this program starting in Virginia. It said cattle would wear ear tags and different methods would be used for other livestock. I think it began as to way to track Mad Cow Disease and bird flu, but it is going to get out of hand. More government intrusion! I didn't sign the petition since I live in Virginia, but this appears to be something every horse owner should watch closely.

Hi all, I just joined the forum, but I've been a long time watcher. I caught the posting about NAIS and felt that I had to post.

NAIS is already active and in place in all 50 states. If you check the official website www.usda.gov/wps/portal/usdahome you can track what they are doing. There are also several Stop NAIS groups that are actively working to educate people about what this is as well as just get the word out about it.

I'm not sure if it's appropriate to post those links here so I'll wait for permission.

SC has already begun registering properties, although to my knowledge they have only sent out requests to cattle owners at this point.

I am totally against this, and I hope that anyone that loves animals or farming will decide to at least send some emails and sign the petitions. Please let me know if it's ok to post the other links.

Thank you Heather. Since I'm new, it seemed safer to ask first.

While the framework is in place, this is far from being an actual regulation yet. Texas is moving faster than any other state, but even they have slowed down due to public protests. It's important that people who love animals continue to protest. Once it becomes a reg it will be difficult if not impossible to reverse it.

The website has a forum and there are people there from all over the country. The Yahoo group is very active as well, although you will need a Yahoo user name to sign up. Both are looking for as many members as possible, and both are posting info according to state. The Yahoo group was started by some folks from OK, but it has grown and they welcome everyone. Lots of good info at both, and you can use any search engine to locate others. There are a lot of people that aren't willing to just accept this, so don't give up without a fight

They tried doing this with plants a while ago, and public outcry nipped an equally massive program in the bud. While it hasn't been 'cancelled', those in charge are still scaling it back. There are a lot more small farms in this country than the few large ones. We just need to make our voices heard while it still counts. NAIS has done it's best to keep their plans out of the public eye. Spread the word so they don't get away with it
