I just love these horses. They are so adorable. I was just wondering if their disposition is as sweet as they look.

Thanks for joining us Lynn. Yes, their disposition is just as cute as they are. They are very inquisitive and will get into things that they shouldn't and if they're raised correctly, they follow you like at dog and want to sit in your lap. I guess it's just like any animal - 90% of it is how they are raised. We have a couple that are beautiful and friendly but not loving (scratch me all day)...and then you have the 10% that just don't want to be loved on - must be part of their bloodline. They're one of the best things I've ever experienced. I can sit in the pasture and have them just surround me and all of them wanting scratches and love. It's my stress relief and one of the best gifts God has ever given me. If you're ever in this area, I'd love to have you stop in and meet my little ones.

I also LOVE my minis. I have owned & riden horses most of my life. I bought a couple of larger mini geldings to train as lead line ponies, and I was HOOKED!! If you ever get the chance, check a mini out. If rasied properly, they are the best pets. The size of a large dog, the beauty & grace of a horse.

I have to say, I have never really wondered about minis till I started watching Heather's mares , after seeing them I wanted to learn more about them and see them in person, I have seen a few minis now and even got to ride in a cart (They are STRONG) I've always wanted to visit one of the farms that we watch , and if I got to pick a farm to visit it would have to be MRF. I LOVE minis!!!!!

Sarah, I'd love to have you come visit our farm. You have been such a blessing to me by watching my mares so I can get a break...I can't thank you enough.
Laura - you are absolutely right, just like any animal, it depends on how they are raised and treated. I would never sell a horse that is aggressive or has aggressive tendencies to anyone without telling them everything I can about that particular horse. I can only pray that everyone is that way, but we know from experience that isn't the case.
Make sure you visit farms, handle the animals. If the animal doesn't come to you, runs from you, or has to be on lead for you to play with it...I'd be a little concerned and want more information. I do have one mare that you can't catch in the field, but once she's in her stall you can do anything to her - she's very docile, but you wouldn't know it by the way she acts in the field....It's important to get all the information that you can.

Okay, after reading all the responses to my mini question I WANT ONE! Do you know of any mini farms in the Tucson, Arizona area that also do boarding? I think it would be a great experience for my son and not as intimidating as a full-size horse. Any info is appreciated! BTW, I have a lot of experience with horses so I'm not a novice as far as horse care.

Sarah, I have always had big horses and rode huntseat. I saw Heather's website on the internet and emailed her and just fell in love with her. She was not trying to sell me one of her horses. She loves minis and took the time to tell me all about them, what to look for in one and just told me the pros and cons, etc. She never steered me towards one way but gave me the knowledge to make the decisions on my own. However, it did not help that she had a little colt that looked like a "mini me" to my very first hunter which was a welsh x. She has taught me so much about them and I am sorry that I wear her out every week with questions. But, I got one from Sharon and Heather, not because he was the most beautiful horse out there (but, I do think he is cute :-) but mainly because they stand behind their horses, they love them and want the best for them and will teach you everything and anything they know. It is their love and passion and they are the best!! PS- Heather, we have decided that Chance needs a girlfriend so be on the lookout. :-) And they are the biggest pets, he torments my golden retriever and loves him to death, I have never seen anything like it. We have to let our dog in and give him a break. And there Chance is on our front porch looking in the picture window. Our neighbors think we are nutts! You have to get a mini, and it is true when they say, you cannot stop with just one.

Amy, you are so kind. I'm glad that Chance was such a good fit for you, and you've had your adventures with him...and you still are. We truly love our minis and I believe that if you don't take the time to make sure that the horse and the prospective owners "fit" then you're going to have an unhappy match and that horse is going to end up leaving. I can't stand to see horses go from home, to home to home. I realize that nothing is a guarantee, but I try really hard to make sure the fit is right. We will definitely be on the lookout for a "girlfriend" for Chance. Has he grown any??? Lynn- one of the best forums to check is the Smallest Horse Group. Their website is finally back up and running and you can visit it at www.smallesthorse.com You may find a farm in your area. If you can't find anything there, go to www.lilbeginnings.com and on the left there's a link to the breeders by state. Click on your state and they'll show anyone that is 'registered" with them. Have fun and let us know the outcome....

Lynn.... I just went to Lil Beginnings and checked the breeders in Arkansas.... Flying A Farms flyingafarm.com is having a herd reduction....check there first. They have nice horses and Laura is a sweetheart. She's pregnant and has to downsize so you may find something nice at a really good price. Tell her I sent you !!!! Have fun.......you will want more than one.....

Hey Heather, yes, Chance is a great match for us. YES, we have had our adventures and I am sure he will not let us go very long without having them, he tries to keep us on our toes. He is just like a typical little boy sitting around looking for something to get into. :-) He is home with us now and will be here to stay for many, many years, but he does want a girlfriend, and "Boomer" our golden retriever says, it ain't him! Ok, well I better get to guessing on what foals will be born this weekend, I HAVE TO GET ONE OF THOSE TUMBLERS TO SPORT AROUND!

ok, ok... can't resist... my new baby coming...(the pic is from the breeder)..she is a yearling this year. I will be new to minis this year, and can't wait to teach her to drive...(how long do you have to wait, anyways??) and then....maybe.... she can come see Heather's black and white stallion some day ;D It is a new experience with the wee ones. Do you think her tail will be white, or is that baby fuzz?? hmmmmmm
