We adopted a rescue miniature in October. She came as a 2 for 1 deal. We knew she had been exposed to a stallion (5 in fact) but we weren't sure if her belly was hay or baby!
She was very thin when we got her with her spine, shoulders and pelvic bones quite prominant. Since she's been here she's gained quite a bit of healthy weight and look great.
Our difficulty is that we don't know when she was bred. Or to whom, but that's another matter! We think she's about 10 months along as a late Nov ultrasound estimated her at 6-7 months.
So Chelsea and I would appreciate a few extra eyes as she's in school all day and I work most days. I was able to get our practice manager to enable one of our computers to receive the marestare video but I won't have access all the time.
So if you see something going on, please call us. Our numbers are on the "Chelsea's mini" website link. Luckily I work for a group of veterinarians, five of whom do large animals, so there will be no problem with me leaving unexpectedly if I get a call!
And we're new to the breeding end of this. Our big mare, who you can see on Chelsea's website, has aborted twice at 8 months so we've never gone the whole way. Once with twins and last time with a single.
Hoping her cervix doesn't have a tear so we can try again and support her with regumate but what's meant to be will be, right?
So please, you more experienced breeders, please email if you notice something I might not. I'm so afraid of losing Lucy and the foal due to my lack of experience combined with her lack of neomatal care the first 6 months of her pregnancy.
God bless all our mares.
