I'd like some input on my maiden 4 year old mare, Maggie. I bought her last November. She was pasture bred, and due dates were from April 1st through June 1st. She's 32 inches and bred to 31 3/4 inch stallion. I thought she was ready to deliver last April as I posted before, but she's just getting bigger and bigger. I know I'm new to this being a horse owner, but I'm getting concerned. Any comments are appreciated. What do you think about her size? Her milk glands are hard, but the outer part of her bag, teats, is empty and teats are flat. Her hinny has no changes. I've been sleeping in my recliner STILL so I can watch her at night but I think I've been waisting my time and loosing sleep. lol There's lots of hard foal movement from both sides at the same time, I can see this when she's in the field or on the web cam. I love to put my hands on her tummy and feel all the leg movement. I can't even begin to put my arms around her. lol Poor girl. She does some belly kicking but no more butt pushing or rubbing on anything that I've seen. She starts from her spine and just goes out bigger from there. At least she was looking like the foal had dropped a month or more ago. She eats like a pig. The vet saw her when he was out here last week on another matter and said, ya she's getting close. No help to me at all, I already knew that. On these pictures please note the dates they were taken and then you can compare the size and maybe see my concern. Thanks so much for looking. Linda, I bought my mare the first of march this year, I was told at first that she would foal sometime in July or Aug. Then they changed it too. Said the stud got out sometime around the end of July and bred her. Well I found out that the same trainer I use also had this stud in his barn, and that he left his place in JUNE. And he was told that he bred every mare in the neighborhood after he got home. So my trainer told me that she might have been bred around the end of JUNE....WHO KNOWS. And she seems to be saying the same thing by looking at her now. Good luck with your mare and I hope everything goes fast and safe for you guys too!!

Thanks. I let her out again today. I feel so guilty by having her in the barn for so long at nite. I do keep fans on em but she could have been out running in the fields if I'd only known. I was expecting her to foal so much earlier, and her size convinced me of that. Oh well, live and learn not to trust strangers so much. lol I see your mare is really close now, She's so pretty. I'll be checking on her too.

I just can't get over how BIG that poor girls belly is!!!! Have you had a vet check her to make sure that she is okay and that the foal isn't too big for her? Just a thought. She looks ENORMOUS!

Oh Brittney I think the same thing about her size. I've been contact with the owner of the stallions and the one she's bred to is the same size as Maggie. I don't know any history of the past sizes of this mare or stallion. This wonderful lady that has a mini ranch where the studs come from has sent me tons on info on them. That should be here by Wednesday. She said she couldn't email em cause it would fill up my PC. lol So she must be sending a lot of info and pictures. We don't have any really good horse vets around our area, but my vet did look at her two weeks ago. Thats when he said, yes, she'll be foaling pretty soon. Well that was nothing I didn't already know. lol Maggie still want's to eat everything in site. I wish I knew more about Minis, like the food she should be on now and what I should do that I'm not doing now. I guess I'm going to get my foaling book out and see what it says in there. If you or anyone has any sugestions PLEASE post for me. I feel so helpless everytime I look at her. I'm probably worring for nothing, that's what both vets said. They told me to start sleeping in my bed again and one morning I'll wake up to a baby in the stall. I agree, but will Maggie and the foal be alright?

Hope everything goes great for you Linda. Some people will tell ya not to worry, but that's what a MAMA does best!! lol. They tell me the same thing, stop watching her and she will foal. Well I want to be there in case theres a problem. Some can just let them foal on their own, feed whatever, never do anything, and they will be fine, it don't work that way for me though, if anything can go wrong, it is usually one of mine that it happens to. Keep us informed!!
