Boots, my mare that lost her foal to a dystocia on Wed. was acting very colicky tonight. I have been on the phone with the vet several times and gave her 2.5cc of Banamine at 9 and walked her for a while. For the last half hour she has been resting comfortably. We didn't know if it is colic or uterine problems from the dystocia. If you late niters or west coasters could keep an eye on her tonight I'd appreciate it. There is a buckskin mare on cam and Boots is next to her. You should be able to tell if Boots is getting up and down and pawing. Plus, I have two mares with Equipage on that love to lay flat and set of the alarm several times during the night, but it certainly helps to have back up....THANK YOU for any help you can give. And, yes, it looks like Mia is close!

Thank you Jane! If you go to live cams and scroll down to Brookhaven Minis or the website is www.brookhavenminis.com. She still seems okay and is actually nibbling on some left over grain in her dish. Hopefully she will be fine, but never hurts to have several eyes on them!

Thanks. It was a nightmare. The foal's back feet were folded up under it's belly. I tried to push them back but couldn't. She had a really rough time. I took her to the clinic and they flushed her and treated her but she's been very sore needless to say. That's why we didn't know if it was colic or just uterine contractions. But she was in real pain earlier tonight. Appreciate your checking on her.

Update to am post. Boots did not eat her breakfast and was being very lethargic. I took her temp and it as 103.1. I took her to the clinic and on ultrasound you could see mucus in her uterus. Sort of a precursor to a uterine infection. She was levaged, infused and will stay there another three days. She is such a sweety, never moved through all that invasive stuff. Good news is her cervix looks perfectly normal whereas on Wed. there was what appeared to be a small tear. So hopefully she will be able to have more babies. And Doug, I did give her some Pro Bios this am along with more banamine and some syrup as a little boost.

Merry, I'm so sorry that Boots is continuing to have discomfort and problems. The loss of the foal was enough for her to endure - poor girl. We'll be praying for her and we hope you'll keep us posted on her progress.
And you, poor girl - are you getting any rest at all??? Please let us help!
Take care and God Bless.

Rest? Does anyone get rest this time of year? LOL. Last night I was able to watch Boots all night because the two mares that had the Equipage alerts on kept alternating as to who was going to lay flat - first one and then the other. No sleep for the weary. I was telling my vet about Marestare - she had never heard of it!!!!! I told her I could ask folks to watch my mares if I had to run to the clinic...she was amazed. GREAT SITE and YES, I will be asking for help!!! Just pray for Boots that she heals and can have more beautiful babies. She's a really sweet, beautiful mare.
