We have had a ton of emails on the birth of Gracie, asking us what happened.....First of all me and Jenny are not vets or do we pretend to be..It is very important to have your vets number as handy as possible when foaling..As you all probably know Rosie was having a pretty rough couple of days before she foaled...Gracie is a little on the large size as well and that didn't help out either...When she started pushing....everything looked normal...then we only saw one foot and a nose peek....so Jenny got her other foot out and lined up for her...when Rosie finally got the head part way out, we noticed Gracie was taking in fluid...with the next pushes she was able to get her head and shoulders out...we left her in up to her chest so the next contraction would help squeze some fluid out of her chest...we got a little fluid out...but not much...so we then helped pull her compleely out and began rubbing her....her heart rate was good at first so we tryed to stimulate her nostrils and mouth by putting our fingers in there trying to get her to gag a little to inhale...when that didn't work we blowed some air in her mouth trying to expand her lungs a little so we could hear how full she was of fluid...then we lifted her up by her back legs to try and drain some fluid out of her lungs...we were able to get a little more out that way but still no breathing....Jenny worked on stimulating her by rubbing and pushing to get the air out I blew in, I covered her mouth and one of her nostrils so I could create a suction point...I was able to suck about two mouthfuls of fluid out of her that way and Jenny went back to stimulating her mouth and nostrils....Gracie took a short breathe and when we saw that...I blew some short breathes into her and Jenny went to rubbing and stimulating.....When she jerked....oh lord were we happy....after she began to breathe deeper we began drying her off and going through our newborn task....it was a very scary time for us....We are truly thankful for all of your emails, prayers, and calls..We are very blessed to be able to share our experiances with you all. Thank you all for watching and being our friends.......

It sounds so simplified in words, but to actually watch it as it unfolded, it took so much longer to transpire! It truly was a miracle that this little one survived, and she owes her life to Doug and Jenny's quick actions and undying love and devotion. Their decision to keep trying everything they could think of is what kept her going and finally brought her around, getting enough fluid out of her little lungs where she could breathe on her own. Again, awesome job you two!! I'm so glad you're keeping her!! Thanks for letting us share your experiences and joy. Deidre

Thank you all very much.....Yes we will keep her and she will be in our mare herd in the future..It has been fantastic getting to know all of you....we have met soooo many great friends.....Take care and we look forward to foaling out one more mare with you all (May 26th)....her name is Dusty and she's bred to a tob paint stallion(Bandit....chestnut and white...red sonny dee and three bars bred stallion....Dusty is a sorrel breeding stock paint mare with sonny dee bar and ole man bloodlines right on her papers....she usually gives us our best built babies...if it is a filly we will keep it.....if it's a stud colt we might sell him as a stud prospect because of his bloodlines and attitude.......so if any of you are interested in buying him if it is a him.....you might want to watch him being born.....Take care everyone and look forward to talking with you all again!!!
