What gestation length do you all use to calculate the due dates for your mares?? I have one mare that has foaled on day 325 and day 327, both resulting in fillies.. So I went ahead and used 325 to calculate her due date for this year... However, I have two other mares that I do not have any foaling history on and this will be the first time for them to foal out here.. The one mare, first one due as far as breeding dates, is carrying her second foal, her first foal, a filly, she foaled on her own, and previous owners did not give me a gestation length or let me know if she went before or over her expected due date. The other mare is an older mare who has had several foals. The lady we bought her off of did not give a gestation length, but did say that she bags tightly a week or two before delivering her foal... I was just curious as to what gestation lengths you use as I've heard and read that miniatures tend to have a shorter gestation length..

I actually use 325 as that seems to be an average for me. The longest I had one go however was 337. I have a mare now that is 322 and has no bag at all...so has me a little nervous.

I like to use 320 as it seems to be a good average for me. My friend insists on 330 - I guess you'll find that we're all a little different.

I only breed one mare a year. Cookie is in foal at 311 days now. Her bag started changing two weeks ago, but not any larger as of yet. 2 years ago she started changing 6 weeks 5 days before she foaled. So I am going by that. I get an April 13th due date that way, and that is between the two extreem lengths of days in foal. Hope that made sense. Anyway, here at 311 days infoal I am allready getting nervous. I look at her so many time during the day and send her positive vibes of love. On her maiden foaling 2 years ago, she foaled alone at 5 pm out in her paddock, and everything was okay. Soooooo, I feel confident that his year will go fine. BUT I am still nervous with antisapation! It is a really good thing that I only breed one a year! ;D GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE FOALING OUT MARES THIS YEAR!

;D So glad to know I'm not the only one not knowing what to use to calculate a due date for the Mare Stare Calendar. First I used 330 days, but when we went past that I added " " thinking maybe I should have used 340 like for big horses... but now that we're past that too... what the heck, she's at day 343, overdue, and keeping me up all night watching her!!! -Wendi Chesapeake Minis

hehe Wendi, gotta love these mares.. My one mare like I said has delivered on day 325 and 327, both resulting in fillies... So I went ahead and calculated with 325, BUT I have this gut feeling she's going to give me a colt this year, will be interesting to see if she keeps the 320+ gestation or carries later with a colt, or maybe I'm just wrong and she'll give me another gorgeous buckskin filly! lol The other two, I have no idea what to expect from them... The first mare, is blowing her winter coat like crazy now and has been for the past week, the other two are just now starting to blow their coats.. We have ewes due from the middle of April to end of April and then the mares due from the very end of April to mid March, depending on what gestation length I use... AAAAAAAAAHHHH!! I'm getting nervous but I'm oh so excited!!
