Jess is a Chocolate Buckskin. She is a very unique color, she is a super sweet mare, and a very good mom. this will be her 7th foal. She is a Jessie James, Boston Mac bred mare. If you ever catch me giving her a belly scratch, you will see her lift her hind leg, it's so cute. She does love her scratches!! She tends to foal at 334-335 days which puts her due date at 6/22, and she will give me definite signs within 12 hrs of her foaling. Her foals have been stuck in the past so we will be keeping a close eye on her when she starts showing signs of pre labor. We love Jess with all our hearts and know her foaling habits, like clock work. So we hope you enjoy watching Jess with us. Kelly

A bunch of us have been watching her for a while, and we're in love. :-) There's a thread for her in the Foal Alerts forum, and I just posted this link so that folks would know to look here for more information.
I hope your foot is better Kelly! (I broke my leg last year. Hubby had to wheel me to the barn in the wheelbarrow for 2 months. LOL! We called it "the limo.")

She always has a lot of tail action during the last 2 weeks prior to foaling so no worries there, baby has dropped a bit, but I don't think she is there yet. She has quite the bag, but her teats are not filled yet, and no wax. Jess usually waxes 4-6 hrs prior to foaling. I hope you all enjoy her.
Just a side note, I am hoping for a non red filly lol. Out of all 6 foals she has only had 1 Filly, 5 colts. All red in coat color except her 2006 colt (Ace)

She is beautiful! I just started watching tonight and so far she's just been eating!
What color would you like the baby to be?
I am color ignorant, so what makes her a "chocolate buckskin" and not a bay?

She has a cream gene. This is a crappy picture of her but you can see her color better. The foal color, well I am hoping for anything not red based. lol Of course I have nothing against red, but I just wonder if she will give us a different color.

I completely agree with devotee, I've only been watching Jess for 4 days and I am absolutely in love with her. She is so beautiful! And I'm not color aware enough to know the difference between chocolate buckskin or roan but she is just absolutely gorgeous. I am so excited to see this beautiful baby. I have all my fingers and toes crossed that she will have a non-red filly! hehe. I know this baby will be just as darling and precious and gorgeous as Honey and Primo! Thank you for allowing us to share in this beautiful experience of bringing a precious life into the world! I've got her up 24/7 but now that I know she has had some foals get stuck in the past I will definitely post everything I see when I think her behavior has changed. Thanks for the tip on her tail, I;ve been saying for 2 days it's very angry! LOL Good luck and healthy foaling!

Oh wow, now I can see that she is not a bay! I'm so old school when it comes to solor I would have called her a "DUNN". She is very pretty! My pony Sun is a buckskin. In the winter he is a very light cream color and tan in the summer. He does not have even the faintest stripe down his back, though. Is that something that developes with age or we he have a stripe from birth if he was going to have one? I need some color education and I don't know anything about genetics.
She just disappeared she must have a hiding spot in her stall!
Well, I'm done for the night! Yall have fun! I'll check back in the morning!

Dun's have the dun factor from birth, dorsal, leg baring, shoulder bars, etc..... also to get a dun one of the parents must be a dun, Buckskins have no dun factor. so it sounds like your boy is a dun, the partial dorsal is called counter shading. I hope that helps.

Thank you all for watching, and all the compliments on Jess. She is gorgeous. People ask me all the time. Can you breed for that color, and I tell them that I would if I knew the right recipe. lol It's trial and error with her coat color and genetics. I have gotten close with her last years colt. We thought he was one color, but now he is a darker version of her. So with Blue and Jess I may just find the right combination.

I had a buckskin mare back when I was a young whippersnapper - but she had a gray mane and tail! I've never seen another one. She was bred to a black Arabian and had a Palomino filly. The whole thing was a shock to me, my vet, and the jerk who bred her sold her to me. How I loved that mare!
Kelly, you always manage to have mares due when I'm leaving town. I did watch Riley foal, but never had a chance to post anything because of a very rudimentary internet connection. I'm leaving tomorrow for a week and I'm hoping that Jess will cork it until I return. Meanwhile, I'll check on her whenever I can get a connection and I sure do wish you well in your quest for a non-red filly! Moreover, best luck for a safe, uneventful foaling . . . a week from now.

Awe devotee, she should foal on her due date, or a day later. She is pretty reliable, so you should be back by then. Have a safe trip!!!!

Thanks, Kelly! That's what I'm hoping. And maybe the special color job will take some extra time . . . . :-)
