Boots...interesting observation

Boots (who is home from the vet - from the dystocia and uterine infection) is back in with her very pregnant buddies where I feel she would be most comfortable. This afternoon, Gloriosa was acting weird so I brought her in for a while. When I put her back out, Boots immediately went and shoved (and I mean SHOVED) her nose between Gloriosa's back legs to smell her bag...as if to see if she had foaled. Gloriosa obliged as if to say...no, it's still inside....Anyway, I've never seen a horse do that and thought it was interesting...

Poor Boots.... She wants to share somebody's baby since she lost hers!

I don't know if I'm happy or sad on this one... It's sad Boots lost her foal but kinda neat that she shows interest in her friends progress

I'm sort of with you tesselaine. She definitely wanted to check it out and I think, had Gloriosa foaled and I put Boots in with them, she would have stolen the baby.! I feel so sorry for her, but will say she was running and bucking today so I know she feels much better. I just found it rather amazing that instead of saying hello nose to nose, she knew to check Gloriosa out and see if she had foaled. I may put her out in the bottom with some other mares, but just during this healing thought she would be better with her buddies.

That's amazing! Sad for Boots, but it may help her heal. I'd be concerned too about her stealing the foal. When Nina's foal died she longed to be with Tess so bad. I knew that she would try to steal her foal. Luckily Nina is at Lee's being bred so when she comes back hopefully everyone will be readjusted by then.

Glad to hear that Boots is doing so well....kicking up her heels.

Thanks Heather. I do think that since Boots is feeling so much better, I will turn her out with some other mares and get her mind on something else. Also, would like to add that for anyone watching my cams...my mares are ALL suffering from narcolepsy. Why oh why do they all sleep so soundly, flat out and setting of alarms constantly!!!! You get tired of watching Banner eat...well watch mine sleep! And on that note, I'm going to TRY to get about 15 minutes inbetween beepers going off....
